By Robert Heinlein...

"A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects."

This about covers it....

This came up last night:
A man should know how to build a nice fire in the fireplace, because women simply can't (well most women anyway).
the wife got home before me and tried to start a fire in the fireplace. Now understand, this is a wood burning fireplace that has natural gas to make starting the fire easier and quicker.

She threw a large round log on the rack, lit the gas, and then wondered why the fire went out after she turned off the gas a minute later. Arrrgggghhh!

Field strip and reassemble an M-16/M-4 rifle in the dark.

Way back many years ago, I was invited to the set of the movie "deliverance" by a friend who was a technical consultant. At the end of the day we were invited to Jon Voight's cabin for a drink. He had some hot babe there and proceeded to strut about like a mountain man perhaps for our benefit as much as anything. He went to light a fire in the fireplace....several large wet logs. Stuffed half a sheet of newspaper under them, lit with match and stood back.

He was so perplexed it did not erupt in a roaring flame. What a doofus. We left. Hot babe didn't. Oh well.

Gosh,
Understand that not all women are ladies,
Be confident,
Not be afraid to defend that which what he loves to the death, but to know when the combat is over,
Understand the term kindness and it application (I am working on this, a toughy)

My lady friend heats with wood. If you know what I mean....... Seriously, she heats and cooks with wood. In at least two ways.

I was a Boy Scout. Invaluable training.

Guess I need to improve. How do you put out class B and C fires, anyway?

Things I would add to the list:

Fix basic MS Windows problems

Class B--smother it
Class C--unplug it ,becomes a Class A fire.
Just good 2A, 10BC grade extinguisher will handle it.
Seriously, learn CPR you will be in some situation where you will need.
