Grassroots is a great magazine, I'm a subscriber. I always love to see Porsche content. They always throw in blurbs about 944 spec and 944 Cup, which is nice.

BTW....Tell them GRM needs to include you in their "Where did you hear about us" drop-down box.

speaking of 944s

We are toying around with the idea building a NASA/PCA 944 race car next, What is the interest level for this project?

Hi Tim,

Long time subscriber. Could just be my ignorance, but the road to a race ready 944 seems a little more obvious to me than a 911. I'd love to see an older 911 build-up. Some real tests of power mods, exhausts, suspension tuning, etc for an earlier 911.

They mailed me an issue a while back out of the blue. It was a substantial tome filled with interesting articles and photos. Much of it regarding BMW and it may have a been a year-in-review edition. Can't imagine each month containing that much stuff. I would subscribe if I wasn't already getting more mags than I can read.

Tim,

Do you remember the White '67 Fastback Mustang that was in your Fine Magazine a few years ago? If you have a CD of the Photos I would love to have it. I didn't take many photos of my car.

To Tim-

there are a lot of 944 spec builds happening on this board, and it would be interesting to include one as a project.

If you are thinking about building a PCA car, perhaps a budget exotic like a 968 CS/RS style build for under $20K or something like it. A early 911 project as suggested may also be in the budget, but may be a little out of reach.

I loved your guy's SAAB rally build and as a Formula SAE engineer the Bezerkeley is damn interesting.

For me, this woud really peak my interest. I am an avid PCA DE driver and instructor, and feel the next step in my driving progresson would be to delve into club racing. Since my DE car is a 944S2, a spec-944 or 44Cup car build project would really help me out with some of the missing details...

Tim - I have been a subscriber to your magazine for nearly 10 years now. THANK YOU! You and your team do a wonderful job - Grassroots is by far the best car magazine out there, IMHO. Those other magazines (*cough* CD, RT, MT *cough*) don't hold a candle to what you guys produce!

Love the way you review current new cars from an enthusiast's perspective, and I do enjoy the technical aspects of buidling a racecar that you cover.

And I've got to find a way to convince my wife that I NEED to build a car (preferrably a Porsche) for $2009 so I can drag it down to Florida from NJ to participate in your 2009 Challenge! (But there's something about a new kitchen that keeps getting in the way of that dream...)

I've been meaning to register on your web forums for some time now -- so tonight I think I will.

Thanks again - I'll pass on the free issue of GRM, since I'll be getting that issue in the mail soon... but I may need to get some GRM gear - my birthday is coming up...and Mrs. Z-man needs to spend some $$ on me!

-Zoltan.

I still have an eight year old issue somewhere where they take a 356 Speedster and a modern mini van around a race course with a bunch of cones to drive around.

The mini van won against the clock but they would rather drive the Speedster around town.

Thanks guys

Thanks for all the kind words. We are trying to bring some different types of stories to the crowded magazine market.

We did an early 911 build up in Classic Motorsports, our sister publication. Wayne was a big help with that car. We are looking at 911SCs right now, and my next car will surely be an early Boxster. I can't believe how cheap they are getting.

The problem with racing 911s, as you guys all know, is that you have people willing to spend $100,000 on these cars to win trophies. Maybe a $20,000 911, set up right and driven right, that can beat some of these guys would be compelling. I'll talk to my staff about that.

Jim with the Mustang, I do remember you and that beautiful car. get with David, my editor and see if he still has pics of that car. On my way to the PRI show for a few days. Thanks again, guys.

Classic Motorsport, the sister-mag to GRM, did this two or three years ago.

Hey Tim,

Thanks for making great mags. When are you coming to PP for a "site visit"?

Unfortunately, the 911 project car seems to have gone AWOL. Have to try to find that. The 914 project is up, though.

I should be out there again after the holidays. I try to get to California at least three to four times a year. Lots of friends and customers there, plus I absolutely love almost every aspect of California. From the cars to the roads to the weather, I always have a good time out there.

Well, make sure you post up. I am sure a few locals can be persuaded to have a beer or two.

My favorite issue by this media empire was the Classic Motorsports July 2007 issue. It had a number of articles on the 1973 Carrera RS vs. five RS clones (one owned by a guy named Wayne, which is how I found his parts business and this site). It was well written and well researched with spectacular photography. The issue also included a long article on the Shelby Collection in Boulder, CO (by Jim Pettengill).

I like each of these ideas. I think a well kept 911SC is the bargain of the century. I also like the idea of doing something on the early Boxster.

What this world really needs is a good U.S. magazine dedicated to Porsche.

My second and third favorite magazines are Sports Car Market and Vintage Motorsport.
