Chrysler closing-hurting Indiana-NOT REALLY
Big news today in our paper. With Chrysler closing their plants for 30 days, the paper says bad times are ahead for Indiana. But if you look at it closer, they will get 95% of their pay for these 30 days. If not, they can use 2 weeks vacation, saved up days off, and get this, state unemployment benefits. Totally un-Fricking believabel. Only in this country with these old static unions could this go on. I dont want a dime to go for this bailout because it will go mostly to the unions. And how in the world does anyone get unemployment benefits when the are gainfully employed? Something stinks in river city.

So that's less than one month severance package, and you think it's terrible ?
Ok, I guess that makes me a socialist then.... We just let go 160 people @ MArriott and they got 2 months severance. I think it's nice for them to at least get that ! Try finding a job right now ! |

Hard to see the savings to Chrysler if they're still paying 95% of their payroll yet not producing anything to earn revenue. Can the utility bills at the plants really be that much? Time to build cars off of the grid.

They always shut down for 15 days each year for maintenance anyway. This is merely an extension. Not at all a big deal and it saves them 2 extra weeks of payroll per man. The workers get the same pay as always except for the extra 2 weeks, for which they will collect unemployment. Union folk are used to that. Probably a lot of people happy to have a month off with pay.

+1. One month paid vacation, at $73.50/hr instead of $77. Waaaaaaah.
Yes, it's hurting someone. Borrow it forward.
