next boxster will be the new 924!

News report on the next Boxster

http://www.hln.be/hln/nl/940/Autonieuws/article/detail/557716/2008/12/17/Porsche-Boxter-diesel-in-2012.dhtml

rough translation
Porsche is planning a new Boxster for 2012
With a VW 2.0-liter TFSI engine, and quite possibly a 2.0 Tdi biturbo, with 204 horses and about 500nm of torque, it's the same engine that audi intends to use as a replacement for the current 2.7 v6 Tdi , and will be coupled to a DSG tranny

That's a lot of torque for hairdressing imho.

no panic just yet, the flat-6 will still be available...

ironic though, Boxster running with a 4-in line
perhaps they will rename it to the 4Linester if it comes with a 4 banger...

That was just a loaded 78, the PO repainted it & had the gold stripes pained in & matched the wheels. We all have to start somewhere

My first was also a 924--1979 with the dogleg 5-spd. Green with gold spiderweb wheels. Really loved that car.

I had a '79 for a while that I sold to some guys from the east coast. They made an amateur film about it (pretty funny, I'll see if I can find it). Basically they flew out here on one-way tickets and drove the car straight through to see what mishaps and adventures they could run into. The car made it too - no major mechanical issues. Those things are tanks.

My first Porsche was a 924(S) too!

Not sure about the TDI in the Boxster though... a blown flat-4 would be a better alternative IMHO.

(afp/sam)

Around here, many of the guys in the SCCA referred to the 924 as the Audi GT because of that engine.

I still have my first Porsche, a '77 924 Martini (I repainted it many years ago and I left off the red/blue Martini stripes). Both daughters used this as their first car. My oldest daughter then moved up to the '87 924S (actually a nice car) while my youngest is commuting to college, so we picked her up a New Beetle. The old '77 must have got rustproofed when new as it has required minimal rust repair over the years and while gutless and over 200k miles on the clock, the d@mn thing wont die and still has it's original clutch. It is worth nothing, so I am just keeping it as it runs and drives perfectly.

Nice stable, Tim. Which of the Germans is your favorite to drive? I'm gonna take a shot in the dark and say either the 911SC or the 951.

Actually I am quite confident that the 951 beats the SC in all areas, but I love my 911
