Despereaux sucked!!

Spare yourselves, and your kids, the aggravation and boredom. Even 5 year olds were whining that they were bored. Stupid plot and totalally hateable characters with zero redeeming qualities (except for Despereaux I guess). They are all despicable but we're supposed to understand where their coming from, which makes their actions okay - a terrible message for kids. Disjointed story line that makes no sense at all. No explanaitions for things that just happen out of the blue. The animation was okay - not great, not bad. It was one step up from the Pokemon movie which was like nails on a chalkboard.

Just watched Cars(the CG one with Paul Newman as the Fabulous Hudson Hornet)
surprisingly good, taught you to turn into the slide, so there was a good message on more than one level

I read that Despaeraux sucked...they had like 6 writers trying to save the plot.

I can't count how many times I have seen Cars....I can't count how many Cars related things we have in the house.

My kids, 7 and 12, liked it. I thought it was weak, but have seen much worse. My main problem was the disjointed plot. It flowed very poorly. And they had a popular book to work from.

Cars, on the other hand, was the best. Not only did it teach the proper drifting technique, it also tought that honor and respect for the well-being of others is better than winning a race.

Ratatouille? Yes. Pixar.

They haven't done anything yet that I didn't like. Wall-E is in our DVD player right now (going to go watch it with the wife in a few minutes here). Those guys are a breath of fresh air in a movie landscape of complete crap as of late - manufactured sictoms, overdone CGI effects with no plot to string them together, recycled plot lines ripped off from other stories, "remakes" (i.e. "let's make more money without having to be original") and dumb romantic comedies. Pixar rocks.

Despereaux is not Pixar. It's by Universal Pictures, who have made something of an art of ripping off concepts from other studios and trying to repackage them in pathetic attempts to suck more money out of a gullible public.

Actually Paul, you're not too old. Have you seen cars? While you are younger than I, I think that you would make a connection to much of the historical stuff.

Best,

Tom

I'm 51 and took a date to see cars.

Great story... lot of secret meanings in story line.

However I was a little pissed that the main character found a mentor, best friend, and girlfriend in a matter of a few days (where do I sign up for that?).

Didn't Michael Schumacher do the voice of the Ferrari at the end of the movie?

Agreed - Cars was excellent. We own the Incredibles and watch it all the time - maybe my all time favorite. Wall-E was excellent too. I think I like these shows more than my kids do, so it's not like I go into these movies like some old grump and leave pissed. I figured Despereaux would have been better considering the all star voice line-up.

trivia - Cameron Diaz earned (???) 30 Mil doing the voice for Princess Fiona in the last Shrek movie. How fu%%ing nuts is that?

We thought Despereaux was good--we had 4 adults, an 8 year old, 7 year old, and 10 year old. They all had read the book and thought the movie was pretty close to it. The animation was spectacular, especially the book animation (see it and it will make sense).

The message was pretty simple and meaningful.

This is a movie for little girls and big girls.

Was it Cars? Of course not. And I have to admit: I've seen Cars at least 8 times and still well up when he pushes Mr. The King across the finish line. Call me a pu*& to my face. Go ahead.

But don't be deterred from seeing Despereaux if you have little girls. My eight year old girl gives it a 7 out of 10.
