has anyone heard of a mercedes benz 480 slc
I saw a decent 480 slc for sale locally, but can't find any info on the car what so ever. It's a 1974 480 SLC benz. it has the V8, and PFI. compared to the CIS.
any ideas what i just took a look at?

My girlfriend's dad had one back in 1976. Backseat was real small. Her mom's Caddy had much more room.

Either a 380 or a 450 - nothing in between that I'm aware of. The SLC is simply a fixed head version of the SL. Not common, but not as collectible as the SL.

There is no 480 version that I'm aware of. I always thought the SLC (Sports Light Coupe) versions--with the added space between the B-and C-pillars--looked a little oddly proportioned, compared to the graceful convertible SL series. Not my cup of tea.

from what I recall, itisn't just a fixed roof version of the sl, it has a longer wheelbase and is quite a bit heavier.

I don't know about the weight issue (though I wouldn't be surprised if that was true), but IIRC the wheelbase is longer, like you say. It certainly upsets the aesthetics of the car. The proportions are a bit off in SLC guise, compared to the handsome SL bodystyle. IMO.

I agree the SLC does not have the handsome lines of the SL and the V8s from this era are lethargic by today's standards, they are more of a cruiser on the highway at 75-85mp/h and around town than a tire shredder. They are GT cars.
I have to admit that with a subtle AMG \ Lorinser front spoiler and the right wheels (period correct parts) they look great though. Finding AMG or Lorinser parts in this day and age for these early cars will be tough and I am not sure if you can still buy them from the factory. Worth a phonecall. Like so: ![]() This is the most famous SLC, built at the AMG factory and extensively raced in the '70s. ![]() Some more: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Great cars non the less. I love old Benzes. Yasin
