Tell me about it... I'm stuck driving one while my 911 is in the body shop.

Matra 12. It sounds like a swarm of bees.

Sorry. I had a guy in a Mercedes pull up to me at a stoplight once and ask what that noise was. I pointed out the dry clutch and he just nodded. Does sound like something's broken in there.

Maybe not the worst engine sound in the world, but I've noticed that Subie flat-4s with aftermarket exhausts sound like they're farting.

Oh man, you nailed it. A suby 4 cylinder with an aftermarket exhaust is the worst sounding thing in the world. Almost as bad as the moron-sub woofers and harley's.

Yes, but they're angry bees.

ok, nothing specific.

i hate any motor with an exhaust leak. equally as annoying, those kind folks out there with bad accessory belts. you know that screech you hear when someone takes a turn and loads up the powersteering pump? makes me cringe.

how does one drive a car with fixable noise?

Superman 12-29-2008 11:53 AM

Yup. Four-bangers with fart cans. I chuckle every time.

It's a boxer thing. The Subaru flat-4 isn't as as loud as a Porsche but you can hear and feel that same distinctive rumble. :D

Any Subaru flat 4 with an aftermarket exhaust. I hate the people who drive those cars for the most part because the majority I have met are idiots. Those engines sound best when muffled as much as possible. Open them up and they sound like a 911 throwing a rod to me. You can tell it's a flat engine... but it just doesn't sound right.. like there is a constant rattle or vibration coming from something- like it needs balance shafts or some cam bolts tightened up..

I have a friend who has a 2.5 RS with all the hip Subaru club people mods to it. It always sounds raspy and like the exhuast has steel shot in the catalytic converter. Fast, fun car.. but wrong engine IMO.

Heard a Chevy Silverado with dual glass packs yesterday.

From all the noise it was making it sounded it was traveling at a high rate of speed in reality it was only traveling about 15 MPH:rolleyes:

As I mentioned, I like the car, and really never noticed what a "stock" Suby WRX sounds like. But when the exhaust system is opened up, the sound is just too deep. Like one endless baritone fart!

I hate the sound of low octane fuel...

vash 12-30-2008 06:39 AM

ok, i have another one. i cant even explain it. mostly big V8 american sedans make this sound. when the driver gets on the gas, the car makes that "vrooooosh" vacumy, airy, suctiony sound.
