So bummed . . . UPS lost my Porsche parts

40 something years old, long time eBayer, I've sent and received so many packages over the years and NEVER had a single one lost.

I bought a complete set of 80s Carrera door panels from a fellow Pelican. He sent them promptly, but forgot to send the door pockets in the package. So he sent those separately a few days later.

In the meantime, I had started redying the panels to get them ready for my car, ordered new carpeting to redo the pockets, anticipating that the pockets would be following any day.

Well, a few days passed, then a week, and no pockets! Checked with UPS tracking, and it showed that the package reached the Vernon distribution center here in California (about 40 miles from my house). Normally it stays in Vernon for a day or less, but tracking shows it never left.

Finally, after about a week, it says "Your Package has Experienced an Exception."

Which is apparently a weak euphemism for "We have no #@%#$ clue where it is!"

Has anyone had that happen to them? Is there any chance I'll get it? Is there anything I can do, as the recipient, if I call them?

It's really a bummer because I can't complete the project without the pockets.

(The seller BTW has been great, they've been all over UPS trying to get answers.)

I got that" exception" on a christmas present I ordered for my wife. Mine showed up about a week late. Sooner or later it should show up somewhere, good luck.

I don't know, but I'm going to look in his big brown truck the next time I see him, and if it's sporting a snazzy new set of 911 door pockets, there'll be hell to pay!

Usually they will find it. I've had some "exceptions" and usually they come a few days late.

You should call and see if you can go PICK IT UP at the Vernon Center. Usually you can.

Results happen when you're standing there tapping your foot.

Thanks Dr. O. I called them, they said there is "an investigation" ongoing as to the whereabouts, but that's all they could say.

It's now been over 2 weeks since UPS last had a track on the package. I'm thinking its gone.

Anyone have a good set of panels they want to sell? The carpeting color/condition doesn't matter, I will be recarpeting them anyways. This stinks, because I have all of the other parts for my project, but the lack of the pockets has ground it to a halt.

I had this happen. Something in the Fedex ground system "ATE" a 914 starter.

It couldn't be stolen. Who would want a 914 starter?

I'm in the same boat.

I have a package being shipped by UPS that they cannot find. It was recieved in the Raleigh area per the tracking number a few days ago and they still do not know where it went afterwards.

Having a similair situation with another package from Fed Ex

Don't want to forget the US Post Office......Those F'rs lost 1 of 2 boxes that I shipped back in October. We're still trying to get money for the 944 axle spindles and the brake calipers.

Seems to be a trend.....the shippers are loosing Porsche parts. Conspiracy???

UPS lost a driveshaft for my Miata torsen conversion. Hard to think that a box at least four feet long could go missing, but it did. It's never turned up as far as I know.

Ugh. UPS sucks. Hard. I've had exactly ONE package delivered by them WITHOUT problems. Thankfully it was a huge one - my ducktail. Every other time there's been some kind of problem or delay.

I'll never forget the time when I lived in Montreal and a package was being delivered to me by UPS. My address was 3454 Stanley St. and they tried to deliver it to 345 Stanley. I told them that 345 would be somewhere in the St. Laurence River (addresses started at 1000). They tried TWICE more to deliver to 345 Stanley, despite my repeated calls. After a week or so of this, I eventually had to go pick it up at their depot in Lachine (suburb maybe 30km out of downtown). I was a student at the time with no car. 90 minutes by metro and bus to their depot, 90 minutes back. I called in a complaint and sent them an email. Their response was to credit me with a free shipment, so long as the shipment was leaving from 345 Stanley St.

Guys, that is what Insurance is for............duh.............bought and shipped many many items without one concern.

Just like at the post office, someone was *****ing about .$42 cents to mail a christmas card from Seattle to Florida......I chimed in , sounds pretty cheap to me.........

So if UPS or Fedex loses something, claim it on insurance, I don't see the problem in that.......

'splain it to me.......

Oops -- I unfairly slammed Big Brown. It was FedEx that lost my driveshaft.

Not every part can be replaced -- that's the problem. Some things for the cars we love are pretty rare, and that's the frustration of losing them in the system. It hurts even more to know they are likely to be junked when found.
