eBay Question

I'm selling some 951 parts on eBay. This is the first time I've sold anything on eBay.

I've specified in my auctions "Domestic Shipping Only".

In one of my auctions, it lists the location of the winning bidder as "Jordan".

Can I cancel his bid? (I can't figure out how.) What recourse do I have?

I sell on eBay all the time.

Usually, people from other countries will contact me and ask if I can ship to xxxxx. I almost always do as it's really not a big deal to ship - but I let them know that I will charge actual shipping costs vs. my fixed shipping that I quote in my ad. My only exceptions is when I am shipping something large like a car seat - in this case, domestic only.

In your case, the guy has already bid and without asking you. 1) you need to make sure your ad specificies US only. 2) you can cancel the bid. Just go into the site-map and look for selling tools. Somewhere in this section, you can cancel the bid. Be sure to write down the auction id and the bidder because it will want this info. 3) in the same area, there is a section called "blocked bidder's list". You should add this bidder to this list to prevent him from re-bidding.

All that being said, I have never had a problem shipping overseas and almost every foreigner has been a great customer.

Lastly, you wouldn't happen to be selling a perfect set of clubsport wheels would you? These are the ones that look similar to the design 90's and are 7" and 9" staggered. I want a set.

Nope, nothing quite like that. Mostly unused engine-bay parts for the 951.

This guy has zero feedback and registered last month so it makes me rather nervous. If he didn't read the auction description, I'm anticipating trouble.

As long as you get his money, it dosen't matter. But if he stiffs you, you have to re-list and that's a pain. EBay will refund your fees after you file a non-paying bidder report.

I canceled and blocked his bids. If he contacts me, maybe we can work something out, but I'm not going to take the chance unless he contacts me.

There are 7 other people watching the auction, so hopefully someone else bids.

Bidding not over yet? Should have sent him an email, he may have a US relative or mailing address. Someone else will probably snipe in anyway.

I think it's ok to cancel his bid - without notification.

He bid on your item and did not notify you. If he's still interested, he may contact you and give you a compelling story. At that time you can decide what you want to do.

Same sort of thing happened to me except I didn't catch it until it was sold. According to ebay the person was in Germany. When he payed via paypal his address was in Georgia so thats where I mailed it.

Auctions closed Saturday night. Three items sold, two did not.

One guy (a fellow Pelican) contacted me before bidding and said that he can pay me on the 10th. No worries there.

One guy paid within minutes of the auction closing. I shipped him his parts yesterday.

One guy has not paid and has not contacted me. I haven't shipped yet either. How long should I wait before sending a gentle reminder? How long should I go before relisting or doing a second chance offer?

I usually wait 2-3 days before sending a reminder. You can also click on the "send invoice" button where you can add your own personal message. I usually say "Thanks for purchasing the xxxxxx and I will ship as soon as I receive your payment. I take Pay-Pal, check or money order, Thanks again....Vern"

Almost always, when I send the invoice I get an instant payment or a note telling me they mailed it. 95% pay with Pay-pal.

A lot of people who purchase from oversees will have an arrangement with a Mail Boxes Etc type outfit.

You ship to a domestic location and they have it forwarded to them from there.

I see it all the time, typically with products bound for the Caribbean. Lotsa stuff they just can't get there.

But you were right to cancel. That's something you need to know up front.

+1 for sending the paypal invoice. When I win an auction whose description is somewhat vague, I always wait for the invoice so I have some documentation in case I need to file a claim later on.

Yeah, I sent the invoice about a minute after the auction closed.

Well, I sent the guy a friendly reminder last night that I will ship as soon as payment is received. Still no response nor payment. I have a feeling this is going to turn in to a major pain.

Looking down the road, can I just do a second chance offer if he doesn't pay? Do I have to file a non-paying bidder complaint?

You can do a second chance offer to bidders down the line.

However, I have never once had a second chance offer be accepted. I think that is because people like to "win" on e-Bay and it's much more fun to out-bid someone. A second chance offer may work but many people have moved on to the next item they don't need.

Hang in there...I have sold a couple thousand things and 99.9% of them goe thru without a hitch.

Got everything sorted out and sold eventually. Now I have another question.

On December 20th I got an invoice from eBay that $46.03 in fees would be deducted from my PayPal account "no sooner than 10 days". As I don't keep money in PayPal, ever, I transferred back $46.03 to cover the fees. I checked eBay today and it says that the fees were paid on December 30th. I checked PayPal and I still had a balance of $46.03 with no pending payments. What am I missing? Am I not understanding how eBay collects fees?

Are you sure they were deducting the charges from your account balance and not a credit card or bank account that you have tied to the paypal account?

That's what I signed up for. If they deducted it by credit card through paypal, that should still show up in paypal.
