I got the advice to interview using the same sort of questions. I'll ask a prospective hire if they do any of there own home improvement, if they work on there own car, to get a feel if they have other than book smarts..

My dad (rip) also an engineer gave that tidbit of advice..

When I was interviewing out of college for hte job I have now, the last question they asked was roughly:

"Lets say the vehicle your testing is at the shop, and the mechanics say it's going to take another week for the drain plug connecting rod (or something to that effect) to come in?"

I told them I'd make sure they ordered new muffler bearings at the same time w/ a little grin on my face and (thankfully) the interviewer caught it. And yes, I did follow that up with a 'serious' response.
