OK...i thought i was going insane for a minute. :D
To me, Kashmir is the greatest, most epic rock song ever written and recorded. It's simply brilliant. |
see, problem with listing them for me is that i thought the thread was about lyrical writers...and if so, my personal favorite zep LP is the first one...and, well we all know where those lyrics came from...uncredited black blues men... but anyway. page is a genius and i love zep so.... im with ya.

if i had to pick one totally original zep song as a fav, it would be Going to California. perfecto

I echo the Zep comments - some don't like them b/c they were so "popular" - I'd say look again.

I'll include Cobain also.

Pete Seeger, Ian Anderson, and whoever wrote for the Talking Heads. Also the Byrds.
Was it Steven Foster who wrote all those songs around the time of the Civil War. A lot of depth in his songs, but today we remember him for ''I dream of Geannie with the light brown hair''. I will admit that I don't know too many of the new Writers, but a lot of the music coming out for about ten years was just painful to endure. Screaming at me will get you nowhere. I liked the Indigo Girls, but they are hardly new anymore. I am also a big Pink Floyd fan, but only a few of their songs are truly great as songs. They are all truly great as art however. Bob Marley also had some truly great songs. |

Dean and Gene Ween.
While some of their music is rather odd, the depth of their range is incredible. Long Live Ween. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1232752116.jpg |

Like their stuff, but the lyrics were pretty lame imo - a little too unicorn and wizard hat for me. Can't deny that the music was excellent, but again imo, not the best songwriters. I'll go sort of in chronological order with Orbison, Neil Diamond, Dylan, Neil Young, Springsteen, Michael Stipe, Thom Yorke, Win Butler. edit - oops - forgot Frank Black |
