Sixteen Below

That was the ambient temperature driving in today. The wind chill is at -27º. The high is supposed to be -4º.

School is cancelled all over the state because it has been deemed too dangerous for children to wait for the school bus.

Today is supposed to be the first day in 15 years that the temperature does not reach 0º anywhere in the state. I remember the last time this happened--I was a sophomore in high school. What did we do when school was cancelled because it was so cold out? We went sledding and ice skating, of course.

Schools here were delayed because it was flurrying. I don't understand this state.

But sub-zero all day? That'd make crawling out of bed even less attractive.

I must have seen 20 or 30 snowflakes on my way to work. In general, the Mid-Atlantic region is not too bad.

-20 was the lowest temp I saw on my drive in today a few miles east of my house. I live 40 miles from Toledo. The temp in Toledo where I work was being reported at -2 degrees (my car showed zero). A 20 degree difference in just 40 miles.... crazy.

While the subzero stuff is a bit extreme, normal winter weather is just fine provided one dresses appropriately.

This morning was not a morning to go for a jog however.

Hey that sounds like the forecast for the city of "It's not gonna happen". Looking at you Avatar you're just a couple of hundred clicks from me. School is not cancelled here, they need the money from the state. No school, no money. I have decided to keep my kids at home with me today. You know what that means, my 4y.o. will be on his laptop all day and my 6 y.o will be watching TV all day. I guess I'll spend some quality with my 6 y.o WIC (Watchin I Carly). Took the kids sledding last Sunday, and the hill is all sledded out.

Hey that looks like a photo of a dash from a BMUU

Too cold to go out and start the BMUU to find out what the temperature is, I'll just look at the news and get another cup of Java. I'm sure Mrs. Ruf would like for me to drive her to work on such a cold morning, but can't leave the kiddie Home Alone. So Mrs. Ruf will have to take public transportation today. Being laid off has some perks.

Still, it takes heart to deal with the cold, hell I get a chill getting ice out of the freezer for my tea.

Our overnight low last night was -29C/-20F, before wind chill.

We're going to Florida in 3 weeks and every single thing in my life right now is aimed at that goal.

I f#$king hate winter.

If I could move to CA I would. Better yet, south of France. Anywhere that's warm. I like a few weeks of winter and could never imagine a christmas without snow, but come Jan. 2 get me the hell out of here.

I think I typed this exact post right around this time last year.

I feel the same way Christien.

Except that my trip to Florida was 3 weeks ago.

Yep, last couple days I have been driving the wife's 330i so that she can drive the 4WD Tundra to work as our rural roads are kind of slippery right now. The BMW has snow tires and does just fine, but when she has to drive it, she compares it to her previous car, an AWD Audi. We can't have that conversation without me going off the deep end about how awful the complex Audi was to repair, so I simply offer to drive the BMW on the occasional snow days. I kind of like having the heated seats on these cold mornings.... I guess I win.

Was zero here this morning, which is pretty unusual for my part of Missouri. I actually drove the 911 in to work today because I knew I would get instant heat!

I sympathize - it's pretty frigid here too. I think it's 58 outside. WTF? I'm having to dig in the bottom of my closet for the thermal underwear, socks and winter jacket. This is B.S.!!!

Dads in Ann Arbor, MI. They are heading for Florida today, about a week earlier than planned.

They interviewed a principal from somehwere in North Dakota on the news today, and its business as usual except for the school rule, "We dont let the kids go outside for recess when it gets below -20 outside." WTF?? So if its -15, it's OK? Geezzz......

This morning here in central Misery it was 2 above, with wind -10.

Sounds good compared to some out there...

Schumi, South St. Louis and Rolla are quite aways apart, which is it?

I drive through both on the way to Mountain Home, Arkansas once a year or so.
