my pile of evidence that she did something wrong is as big as your pile that shows she wrote a good brief.

a top quality staff person would have responded immediately in the fashion Don suggested.

So you screw up, get called on it and your response will be to spell check?

Wow people.

so according to you BOTH sides are wrong for jumping to conclusions but you only choose to correct one.

I'm sorry, but writing an illegible error-filled email isn't also "Screwing up"? Don't you think leaders should lead by example? Or are you one of those "do as i say, not as i do" types?

Generally speaking, when exhorting an employee to act more professionally it is not good form to do so in poorly punctuated woefully spelled text. You agree?

I have no evidence that she is wrong, no.

best cpa i ever worked with was a horrible writer. his writing looked like it was written by a 12yr old. but damned if his stuff isn't tight as a drum. nobody but nobody i have worked with before or since does a better job.

the point is the person in charge said the work was crap. responding with 'well your note was poorly written and contained errors' is childish.
and btw these folks get paid for the product they put out, not for inter-office emails. who gives a darn if sup took time to correct her email?

Obviously, a lot of the posters on this thread. If those that have so opined are representative of a larger slice of America, lots of us do.

Using spell check is fast, easy, and can really help you to not come across as an illiterate moron.

Besides the military the most employees i've ever had at one time was 3, so i'm hardly an expert, but IME you have to set the example for them to follow. If your example is petty, poorly spelled personal attacks then how can you expect your employees to take the high road when you didn't?

Sure, you can just fire them, but good help is HARD to find.

what is petty about not being happy with the work she did?

petty is 'i don't like the blue paperclip you used'.

m21sniper 01-28-2009 01:21 PM

I gave you my opinion. Shrug.

berettafan 01-28-2009 01:22 PM

and the only personal attacks i've seen are 'bi-polar' and 'damn women' type stuff on this thread. sup didn't call her fat or ugly or such things. she said she should be embarassed by the work she submitted.

that is not a personal attack. it's not terribly professional and marching right into sup's office with the email and a 'hey that was a bit rough but how about some specifics so i can get you what you want' would've shown our girl to be the more mature person. but not necessarily the better atty.

Worked for a guy who could not write to save his life. He is highly successful though.

One day my webmaster calls me over and asks my advice on an email he had just received.

It said,

the

that's it, one word.

Surmising that she might be bipolar based on VrrrooomGirl saying her sup has extreme mood swings is not a personal attack.

berettafan 01-28-2009 01:59 PM

it's a personal comment. didn't say it wasn't justified.

onewhippedpuppy 01-28-2009 06:44 PM

Seduce her, then file a sexual harassment suit? Dammit, there's only one way to solve this problem, and it starts with seduction.:p

Glad to hear you're doing OK.

Enjoying life..... NOW that's the secret!
Cheers,

Take a look at the work you submitted with a fresh pair of eyes. Try and read it from this supervisors perspective and ask yourself if she has any justification for her position. She may have a point that your work was not up to standard, she may have explained the assignment badly or she may be totally or partly wrong. Then, decide how you should react.

m21sniper 01-29-2009 05:41 AM

The author sent me a PM with more details. Based on what she told me her supervisor has some issues that go far beyond her relationship with Vrroomgirl.

berettafan 01-29-2009 05:54 AM

They all do snipe.
