Weekend project: Wine Barrel Desk
I'm moving into a small office and need a desk. So I took two of our spoiled barrels, cut to height, cut out a knee space, and put a simple work surface on top. Here's the result:

Nice. How is it that the barrels don't lose their structural integrity with a bottom and some staves removed and all those hoops cut? This is extremely disturbing to me; I thought I really understood the concept of a barrel.

I used screws to keep the staves in place - alternating rows/etc. Next time I do this, for a really clean look I might remove one stave at a time and epoxy in place. My arm and shoulder are dead from drilling some 150 holes...

Well done! It looks like you did some small cut-outs to run wires through as well. With your knee space & cut out for file cabinet, that should be great. Now all you need to do is take one more barrel, cut it out & drop the top down on some supports to form a seat bottom, add cushions for the seat & some casters on bottom, and voila! Desk chair

Group buy? I love that. I thought I was stoked to acquire a lazy suzan barrel top from Justin not too long ago.
