Nice Rick, nice.

My Smith (its really a 6906/5903 hand fitted hybrid) is as accurate as any sig i've ever fired, and with the porting and hogue grips the recoil is very mild, even with +P cor-bon. I've fired about 6,000rds through it, it is definitely primary gun good, i just have the itch for a P7, especially a $500.00 P7. LOL. Is the PSP .40 S&W or 9mm? 7+1 seems low for a full length grip pistol like a P7 if it's in 9mm. |
SIG makes guns now with manual safeties, but I'll not own one. The decocker is the real safety.
The P7PSP only comes in 9mm, as does the P7M8. I believe the M10 and M13 come in .40, but they're north of $2k. |
Well i have no use for a 7+1 9mm that overheats in a scant 4 mags worth of firing, so i guess i'll hold out. My dad has a Colt Pony that i keep trying to talk him into giving me for my birthday or Xmas that would fill the pocket pistol role much better.
Hahaha... Never saw a manual safety sig, but i won't own an automatic without one. |
These are their two versions of safety guns.

Rick, that Commander looks just like my CC. You got the lightweight version didn't ya, and if you don't mind disclosing, how much did that set you back? Out of curiosity, does your new acquisition have "Series xx" stamped on the slide?
|
I traded the SIG 1911 and $20 for it. Seller was asking $950, which was way high. I showed it to another Colt guru later and he said it was made in 1987 and is still a Series 70. No Series 70 stamp on it though.

I love my Sig P239! My father gave me a S&W Model 645 in stainless for Christmas and it shoots .45ACP very smoothly and with little recoil. My son has the S&W Model 59 in 9mm and it shoots nice too, but there are obvious differences between the Sig and S&W's when you strip them down to clean them. The Sig couldn't be easier to strip and clean but the S&W is a royal pain!

I don't think you can tell if it has the firing pin block by just field stripping it. I'd do a serial # search and if that shows nothing, then you'd have to remove the breach block and firiging pin. I don't know that I'd ever use this gun for CCW, but I'd like to put it through my regular battery of tests.
|
Do you know of a site for Colt serial #s? I love my CC, but they're pretty large, and heavy I suppose, for CCW (but I don't carry).
|
Someone here has to know. I really don't know much about Colt serial numbers or provenance.

For the money, I'd rather have a tricked out Springfield than a SIG GSR. SIG is the best at their decocker guns. But I wish they'd stick to that and leave the 1911's to the 1911 pros. I got my Springfield Mil-Spec. for $275 delivered, added $100 in custom parts and then mailed it off to Robar for fitting, night sights and refinishing. I have about $800 into it now and it's as nice as they come and, IMHO, more of a real 1911 than a SIG. However, it is pretty cool that 1911 mags are so universal in fit, whereas SIG's other lines of pistols have their own specific mags that don't fit anything else.

I loved my Springfield "Champion" 1911. Just a fantastic pistol, i regret selling it all the time.
