hey. where do you hide your home defense weapon?
ok, that burglary thread has me thinking... of all the stuff i own, leicas, hasselblads..rolexes, the only thing that would freak me out to have stolen would be my sigsauer. maybe my O/U shotguns.
it would break my heart to have my pistol be a part of a robbery, or worse, a shooting. i want it at the ready, but i guess it needs to be hidden. or locked up in one of those fingerbutton locked boxes? any secret stashes? maybe PM me, if you want it to stay secret? cliff i have zero kids. zero kids visits. so kid safety isnt much of a concern. i keep an ASP by the front door. |
I have several safes around the house. Some are in obvious locations, some are not.
No one is going to get "everything". |
it's a secret
|
all weapons are locked in a safe. I don't believe in "nightstand" weapons, but I also have a 12 year old in the house...and 2 cats. The cats are trouble.
|
Pistols are in Safes, except for the ones that are to be close at hand or carried. I need a locking rifle rack. Shotgun is in the usual place, for night time quick grabbing.

Holster screwed to the back of my nightstand, is one.

Kids are bit older and have been around guns all their lives, so:
- .45 on the my side of the bed which faces the bedroom door. I attached the plastic tac holster that holds the pistol to the sideboard. - 20 gauge pistol grip shotgun under the bed, mixture of rounds in the hopper. - Two noisy dogs downstairs. They are unarmed:cool: - Browning Hi-Power downstairs, within three steps of where I spend the majority of my time. - On the weekends I carry a .22 semi-auto rifle in the truck when I'm working around the farm. The thing is remarkably accurate and I feel it is enough of a deterrent for day time nuisances. Remember that I live about a two putt from no-where so trusting in the better angels of man's nature is not an option. We have had veryfew problems down here because everyone has a gun, hunts and supports self-defense. Key is that the collective folks here are smart: none of us are Rambos...but none of us want to be victims. |
I keep mine in my pants!!
Oh, wait, I think you're talking about something different. |
No kids in the house, so in the lock box under the bed.
When I'm out of town the wife has the .357 magnum within reaching distance |
don't really have any ready-access home defense weapons, considering they are all locked in safes
closest is Glock and snubnose, loaded but in touchpad safe by bedside table if I were more concerned about home defense, would mount a fingerprint safe to the underside of the bedframe |

If I told you, it wouldn't be a secret:D
The best way is to build a hiding in plain site, there are ways to build into furniture, walls ect |

A weapon locked in a safe is not a home defense weapon!

hot boiling oil over the drawbridge and sharks in the moat.
so far ,no problems. (that we know of) |
"Hide??!!" I just leave them lying around all over the place. Hell, just the other night I grabbed one by accident when I was reaching for the remote. I've found myself at times rummaging through a drawer full of them looking for thumbtacks or flashlight batteries. My wife thinks I'm a slob and should pick up at least a few of them, as they tend to make the house appear somewhat cluttered. I think it makes the place look "lived in".
|
i keeps my shank under my matress, and a spare one in the crapper, old habits die hard
|
I have a few grab guns throughout the house and in one car at all times. The rest are in the safe. I'm thinking about getting a safe deposit box, so no one incident can possibly get them all.
|
I keep my Sig 226 in my kids sock drawer. A robber would never look there.
Kidding of course. Rifles are padlocked in cases under our bed. Pistols are in small safe in my closet. |
1911 in dresser loaded and locked.
12 pump under bed, various loads 12 ga double in kitchen, loaded with buck. ( we have bears ) .32 loaded in safe. 1 1/2 big dogs. Of course these are all lies. |
Oooo, bunch of tough guys with their guns. I prefer verbal judo. Defuse the situation, talk to the misguided folk, understand where they are coming from and relate to them on their level. A little love and compassion goes a long way.

had just moved into my new place. the land lady was standing in the doorway watching me unpack as she yammered on about something. i opened the box with the daisy red rider i've had since childhood, and she freaked.
had to assure her it was only decorative. she'd **** herself if she even suspected what i have in here. |

My weapons are in the safe except for the pistol I carry.

Who said I wouldn't talk to them? I would talk to an intruder at great length about their options in life, and how to make better choices, starting with that very moment. If the two of us seemed to be failing to make that vital loving human connection, then perhaps we could gently shift our dialog to a discussion of the smoking .40 holes in their chest. |
Where do you live again? And when are you getting that M8?

several old Ithaca pumps in pop-open panels

I have a few guns stashed in various spots, but i also have a large number of collector item type swords hanging on the walls as well. LOL, this place would be an intruders worst nightmare.

"in touchpad safe by bedside table"
+1, although with my son in college I could unlock the shotgun in the closet. The pawnshop of course is another kettle of fish. Jim |

2 pistols right handy on my side of the bed, and the model 37 featherweight less than 3 feet away for the wet work.

God Help The Burglers
We have two Poodles. One for each ankle. Then the cat with the worse gas ever would finish the job.

I'm never more than about 5 seconds from one of my weapons anywhere in my place. And no, I'm not kidding and no, I don't think I'm going overboard. Anyone who ever breaks in here will find out just how "kidding" and "overboard" I am about me and my family being safe and secure in our own home.
There are just too many creeps out there these days. Good thing guns and bullets are still reasonably cheap. And no, I don't think I'd invite an intruder who breaks into my home to sit down, have a drink and tell me all about their rotten childhood, their hurt feelings and their sob story about how they've been victimized their whole life. I don't care. Break in here without permission and you'll hear between one and three things - in this order, depending on your response(s) and action(s): 1. "FREEZE, DON'T MOVE" 2. *click* 3. *Bang!* Three hots and a cot in prison, free healthcare, free TV and a free gym membership (and all the sex I could ever want) doesn't sound so bad these days... Someone wants to throw me in prison for ridding the world of a home invader scumbag? Fine. I'll take my chances with a jury. |
