At least, he didn't spend any time in China before writing about the poor quality of women and food there. And I've never ever heard anyone utter the term "Joe Chink", as is tossed around so much in that one.

Clancy's work is best left to book, though I think Without Remorse would fit into a movie. I always pictured Clark as looking like Kono from Hawaii Five-O.

See I always pictured Clark as a John Travolta type.

My first thought was Atlas Shrugged.

I have to say tho that my kids and I would also love to see Ender's Game made into a movie.

Both would have to be done by the right people....

Ignatius J. Reilly - my hero!

That and there's no way Hollywood would allow the message behind the story to be released unmolested.

3 part mini-series ala Lonesome Dove?

Robert Heinlein's "The Door Into Summer"
Bunches of Heinlein's short stories.
More of Frank Herbert's Dune series.
Lyndon Hardy's "Master of the Five Magics"
The entire Left Behind series by LaHaye and Jenkins
Chronicles of Thomas Covenant by Stephen Donaldson

"How I Went From a Normal Joe to a Wealthy Racer and Won the 24 Hours of Le Mans" by Rob Channell (I will not even get the opportunity to write it.)

Fierce Invalids Home From Hot Climates - Tom Robbins.

The Cardinal and the Kremlin would be a good one or Red Storm Rising. Both great books! Its hard for me to see movies "after" reading the book. They never seem to get it right. Patriot Games was the worst!
In my opinion, the only one they didn't screw up making a movie of was The Hunt For Red October.

BRPORSCHE 01-27-2009 08:17 PM

Yeah Hunt for Red October was actually pretty good movie. I have seen it ten's of times.

In regard to Clancy, the detail is just to immense. He explains every weapon system and character with much to detail. The movie would be for either be crap or be for the die-hard Clancy fans like us. Sadly that won't just happen. I kinda imagined Clark as a short stocky guy with immense hands. Domingo Chavez to be a slender tan guy with a great shot.

With Ender's Game who liked Bean more then Ender? I thought Ender was way to obsessed with himself. I found myself identifying with Bean more then Ender.

Phillip Pullman's "The Subtle Knife" and "The Amber Spyglass".

Anyone know if they've finally gotten their heads out of their asses at New Line Cinema and decided to make these yet or not?

"The Golden Compass" was good, although they totally screwed up the marketing here in the U.S. in order to suck up to religious conservative types. Movie grossed something like $300M overseas and only $70M here. I'm certain if they marketed it properly both sequels would kick butt at the box office.

Not a bad idea at all. For a tech ignorant like me, an instructional video/movie would be much appreciated.

Wayne? :)

How about books that should never be made into movie, but will, thereby destroying them?

It is currently being made. It will star Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt.

Sum of All fears would have been good if it wasn't Ben Afleck as Jack Ryan and they focused more on Clark's story.

Clancy's books are so detailed, and this detail cannot be easily put into a 2 1/2 hour movie.

I remember reading Bear and the Dragon (My favourite Clancy novel by far I believe), all 1100 pages of it... and just being blow away with not just how much detail each character's story portrayed, but also how many characters they were and how they all tied into the plot. I get a real sense of "Real" when reading those books, even if they are made up. Which is good, because that is what he is going for obviously.

Have you read "Red storm Rising"? It is about 10,000x the novel that Bear and the Dragon is. Personally i thought that was Clancy's worst work.

The book was way, way better. They cut my fave scene in the whole book out of the movie too...when the A-10s do a low level pass on the Soviet Fleet/Flag ship.

BRPORSCHE 01-28-2009 08:10 AM

ahh yes. What did they call it in the book? An alpha attack? Almost like an air armada.

Another duo I can't wait to not ever see in a movie again.

Clapton's autobiography.

daepp 01-28-2009 09:07 AM

I have heard the story over and over again that they are making AS into a movie. I'll beleive it when I see it. Even Rand canned one attempt.
