Testosterone Levels Tested Lately ?

After almost a year of not "feeling right" where I have had severe bouts of allergies, mood swings, depression, weight gain, etc, etc I finally had this tested on a hunch from my OWN research.

My current Doc is an allergist and he had been prescribing all sorts of ***** and my allergies continued to worsen as well as my general mood and overall health. I will also mention that my Libido had waned as well as stamina where, even a year ago, I could still cut diamonds like I was 16. So WTF ?

I start to keep a journal of day-to-day state of health and saw a pattern developing. I go to WebMD and search my 'condition' and the result is most likely an overall deficiency in testosterone.

My doc orders a test, the result is the % is very low for a guy my age. He prescribes a topical gel which I start to use and VIOLA !! All systems including allergies are returning to normal. Whooo-Hoo!

Apparently, there is quite a lot that is not known from the effects of low testosterone. BEWARE !!

I've got all of the other symptoms, (severe allergies, lack of energy/depression), but the bone is still jumping fine. (Age 49). Wonder what's wrong, other than horrible allergies...

I am 52, have the same symptoms, have a major sleep disorder and have wondered about this treatement for a few years. I had my levels checked and the doctor says that they are within the normal range....which is quite broad apparently. I worry though that the range is a historical one including the levels of those with a deficiency.

I checked on the treatments on the web, FWIW, there is a lot of success stories and then there are no end of warnings about the health risks of using the testosterone patches and so forth.....to me, the debate is whether I want to live longer feeling like crap or risk living less time but actually LIVING.

I am tempted to try the stuff for 6 months and see if it makes a difference, but my doc will not prescribe the stuff (and there are no doctors available in Calgary so forget about seeing another one).

Thoughts?

Dennis

One other thing to check "while yer in there" are your TSH levels. My thyroid is dead and I've been taking meds for 1.5 years now, but am still getting things dialed in. Symptoms can look like testosterone deficiency....at least some what.

Welcome to hypogonadism.

The gel isn't worth a ****. Pellet implants or shots are the only way to go.

I suggest reading the book "The Testosterone Syndrome"

Ask your doctor about frequent treatments of HCG. If he looks at you funny or says that is not needed, find another doctor.

I've been under treatment for over 5 years and if you would like to discuss or have questions, shoot me a pm.

Normal ranges don't mean squat because no one knows what YOUR normal range is. Ideally men should have levels measured while they are in their early 20's to determine what their normal levels are.

Read the book I suggested in my previous post.

Throw in shoulder and knee pain, but w/o the allergies and the rest mentioned would be me. I've been wondering what kind of testing would be appropriate.

"the bone is still jumping fine"... LOL. Yeah, I can get a jump on things still at 63. I'm just glad I don't have to be on my knees.

Dennis,

I was posting in a hurry before and overlooked what you mention above. That is exactly the major symptom I had when they discovered my levels were low. Now I sleep so hard I sometimes sweat like I did in my late teens early 20's.

What are your Ndl and Free Test levels from that blood work? Again, being in the normal range doesn't mean a whole lot. One mans normal levels may be super low for another man.

You can use cream there but not gel. I've used both (not on my junk) and find that neither work well at all. It doesn't keep your levels consistently in the range you want to be in.

So far for me, the gel makes a huge difference in my overall mood and get-up-go- ness. My doc told me to give it 30 days and then we'll do another blood test to determine how effective the treatments are.

I'm currently using 5MG of the stuff per day. Also He did say that an underactive thyroid could cause similar issues and will will check for those levels then.
