how do you pull the OEM radio out of a 2008 chev silverado?

i need to get that antennae adapter that sirius radio puts out to eliminate the need to transmit that damn feeble signal to my radio. i cannot find a reliable empty station on my FM dial. every mile is different on my commute.

i cannot figure out how the radio comes out. this is on my work truck, so i cannot destroy anything.

I was going to say, mine has a standard mini-jack on the front.

I don't have that late a truck, but most in dash factory radios have to have a lot of the dash pulled to get to them. On my truck there are additional units buried in there that are part of the system.

Cliffie, post a picture. If your dash has that fake wood trim around the radio, it's pretty easy to get out. I just pulled the OEM out of my Avalanche. Took about 10 minutes.

Also, sometimes the satellite radio receiver is behind the glove box. At least my XM receiver was located there.

It looks like the trim pops off first, then this...

Chris is correct. What you want to do is get a feeler gauge and work it behind the trim. Then you get a putty knife (wrapped in say packing tape to protect the dash). You work that putty knife in the gap you created with your feeler gauge and start popping out the clips.

The trim will pop right off. Just be careful, but don't be timid. There are about three clips on each side, and one on top and and one on the bottom. They are stubborn, but the trim is pretty strong.

Then, I believe 7mm bolts hold the radio in. Once you get the trim off, the rest is easy.

Good info, but after I went wild on my '01 Chevy truck stereo, I'll be leaving my '08 stereo stock

only thing you have to watch it the top left corner of the panel when reinstalling, the corner tip of it has to pop behind the cluster face, if you force it it could mark up the dash.
got harbor freight and get the $10 plastic panel popper tool set, used correctly they will NEVER mark up a dash when fighting a stubborn panel clip, but a taped up putty knife will work as was said.
you'll need 2 antenna adapters too.

fords have an antenna connection in the passenger kick, i don't recall if there is one in the chevy........but if so you could install the fm box there, just make sure the male side of the box is going to the radio.....

The best way to exchange the radio from any general motors car is to take it a dealer that sells REAL cars and exchange it for something else.

-I remember the time in 1981 when I drove with my mother at 0700 up I-75 to a truck stop; Dad was stranded. Why? Because the front pulley of his one-year-old chevette had literally FALLEN OFF THE CAR and it wound up on the side of the road!

gm guality! I'm for the bailout of the auto industry...but not for gm! I never capitalize their name on purpose- their products make American workers look bad!

What are you, kidding me with the Pelican self-congratulation? It took 6 replies before you got your answer. Go to certain neighborhoods, and you can get an answer in about 6 seconds.

I went to med school at USC. The hospital was LA County. I think my roommate had the stereo liberated from his S10 about 3 times that first year. The thief even took the time to lock up (including latching the back sliding window) and neatly crimp the wires he snipped one time.

Actually most mechanics just grab a firm hold of the trim and give it one quick yank. Just make sure there are no hidden screws first.

you only need the one FDMA25......
the fm box (FDMA25) which came with your siruis tuner has standard motorola antenna ends.

so you need an adapter to convert the smaller gm antenna to the motorola, than back to the small gm antenna.

one adapter will have......... small gm female/ motorola male (for the input of the box)
the other will be .................small gm male/ motorola female (for the output to the radio)

just to be clear

I could get the dash off my '01 Silverado in a few seconds but my '08 Silverado has me a little stumped.

Anyone know if I have to pull off the black plastic trim that goes from the steering column to passenger door or does the wood grain trim around the stereo come off?

I'm installing a Parrot blue tooth system for my phone.

wow, david. that looks different from what i had to deal with.

if i had to guess, i bet just the wood trim pieces have to come off. there are 7mm headed screws on the entire sides of the electronic doohickys.
