I agree with you, too. I'm not a springsteen fan, I like some of his songs but have never bought one of his albums. I'm not sure what people expect, you have to take the context, this was a Superbowl halftime show. I dunno, maybe there were some things he could have improved on. Not sure what, though. The songs and his voice sounded just like on the records, he was running around, looked to have a lot of energy and having a good time. Hard to say, from an objective standpoint, that it was "garbage" or a disaster.

I didn't think it sucked because he didn't live up to his abilities, no he was screwed before he ever took the stage. It just wasn't entertaining...and isn't that what the half-time entertainment is supposed to do...entertain? It's not Springsteen's fault or anything, he just doesn't have the game if you will.

Bruce was excellent. I have to laugh at some of the never-was's here hating on his good performance. The guy is a good showman and his band sounded tite.

Is that sort of like "if you've never done it, you can't comment on it?"

I, as well as many of you, I'm almost positive, have seen exponentially better performances (musically and otherwise) by more than a few much less famous musicians, with cheaper equipment and less setup. For all the preparation and money in equipment, and his gigantic reputation the Boss should have put on a MUCH better show.

lol...no man...im actually not that much of a fan, but i like some of his stuff. The ironic thing about Bruce is that if you strip away the huckmanship...he actually is a good musician and has written some good songs...especially on piano. There is a video that came out a couple years ago, a behind the scenes look at when they recorded the Born to Run album back in 75 and Bruce was sitting at the piano playing the songs and he actually is quite good on piano...way better than he is on guitar imo. Personally Id rather crack on some manufactured BS like the Jonas Brothers...who lipsync their songs....than have to listen to people cracking on Bruce, who is live...and the people cracking on him know little more about music and what it takes to perform it...than they do about drinking beers, scrimping doritos and playing pretend rock star on Guitar Hero with their kids...thats all im sayin. he wasnt that bad at all.... way better than Britney, Jonas Brothers, John Mayer or tons of other more youthful crap would be. |

Fair enough, but this was supposed to entertain the masses of Dorito eaters and beer swillers watching at home, not a collection of industry insiders and wannabe fanboys still clinging to their dreams of getting that college band back together. Generic entertainment for the masses....and it didn't come through. That being said it almost never does so it wasn't unique in it's suckitude.

I'd rather have heard this. A little electric blues at the Super Bowl.
Video is from 2004/2005. Band members were HS kids at the time. Jason playing the guitar

yeah, i was doing that back in HS too....and the kids down the street are doing it right now. ![]() entertainment for the masses man. Though credit them on actually knowing a 30 year old blues rock tune. As a matter of fact, my friends 6 year old son recently asked me "do you know Smoke on the Water"... so perhaps the old blues rock tunes are still relevent to the kiddys. |

Then the kids down your street are leaps and bounds better than Bruce. Bruce's guitar playing at the Super Bowl didn't come close to what Jason played in that video.
Not a bad jam for a house party. edit: Also, it would seem then that you're a fair sight better than Bruce, as well ![]()

![]() Hey here is one blogger that agrees with you guys. He is a failed musican who writes for Yahoo. I have to be honest he brings up some valid points in critiquing Bruce's SB Performance: http://new.music.yahoo.com/blogs/listoftheday/119897/the-10-unforgivable-sins-of-bruce-springsteens-performance-at-the-super-bowl/ |

I once heard an interview with members of the band. They said it was really annoying that he had a wicked talent for writing songs. When on the road, he could go into his hotel room and come out ten minutes later with a new hit. Anyone who ever tried to sit down with a guitar and make up a song knows how difficult that is. I donīt care much for latest productions, but back in the days he really was the Boss.
Looking at live videos when for example the piano starts out with Hungry Heart and the crowd sings the two verses by themselves. In New York, London, Paris, Rome..etc etc.

Is it just me, but can Bruce actually sing? He really can't carry a tune. He is more of a yelling, grumbling type than a real singer.
I prefer someone who can carry a tune.
