Removing Logos from Bike Shorts

I have 2 pairs of really really nice bike shorts, $120/pr. They have my former companies name and logo on the side, I think in some sort of white, rubberized paint. I'd like to remove the logo without ruining the shorts.

What solvents do not attack spandex/lycra and would remove the rubberized logo?

Why not get some plain black (or other color) lycra and stitch a new panel on, covering the logo? Or perhaps creatively modify the logo with marker, etc?

Put it through the washing machine a bazillion times. That seems to remove silkscreening pretty effectively for me. Of course, the stretchy spandex part may fall to shreds, too, but at least you'll be logo-free!

Just take them to a silkscreener and have them screen a middle finger to the left of the logo.

I would guess a sharpie would cover the logo just fine.

Who will be staring at a guy in a pair of spandex shorts just to read the logo? You might want to wear a cup next time.

Seriously, are people really paying $120 a piece for spandex shorts? You gotta be pooping me.

Why is that crazy? When I was cycling, and not even competitively, I'd ride around 5 or 6, and up to 8 hours a day, 4 or 5 days a week. Few thousand miles, no problem. It helps to be comfortable and have good padding in the crotch region when riding a bicycle at ~28mph for hours on end, multiple days a week.

At 5 hours a day, 5 days a week, for 3 months (sounds like summer break from school ey?:-P), that's 7500 hours. $120/7500hr == $0.016/hr.

Sounds like a steal of deal to me, and that's only over one summer break, not counting any indoor riding, fall or spring riding.

For long rides, yes, it is worth it for the comfort.

If you fall of the bike while wearing the shorts, there's a good chance you can rub it off that way.

Did you do this on a slide rule? There are only 8760 hours per year (8784 in a leap year).

5x5x12=300, which works out to $.40 per hour. OTOH, I don't ride quite that much. 5x1 hr rides during the week, and 2 long rides on the weekend (4-6 hours per day). So, my hours per week are about 15, but year round.

Hahaha. I actually thought and stopped about it a second longer, because it didn't seem right.

Sorry for my poor arithmetic skills guys:-P Leaving it for laughs. However, even at 40 cents per hour, that's still a good deal.

Thanks for the correction red-beard.

Heh, no kidding. I average 16mph on my rides and I just moved up into Cat2.

Because Lance Armstrong does 28mph up the side of an Alp?

Pretty flat in IL. Where I was most used to riding, averaging low 20s was do-able on shorter rides.

Also, btw, I didn't mean to imply I averaged 28mph over 5 or 8 hours. I use, and read, the ~ as "somewhere around there", like "in that range." My average definitely was not 28mph. I've ridden 28 for awhile, I've ridden 15 for awhile.

edit: Mi-Matt, congratulations on the advancement. Somewhere I lost the will to ride. Now my bike sits up against my wall...

edit: Geez, hellI don't know anymore. I haven't ridden for so long (4 years..>?) I can't recall what my times were anymore. Oh well, I'm wrong. My bad.

Anyway..to take the logo off? Do I what I did..crash.

seems to me that legos in bike shorts could hurt.
