That one looks like it's been 4-4-2 optioned... I don't know if that was really possible, or if it is something the guy who restored the one in the photo thought up.
Google "Olds Vista Cruiser" for more photos... and get a better look at the extra glass on the raised roof... that's the reason for its name.

Worst piece of stop-light grand prix smackdown I ever got was from an old lady in a station wagon...
It was an old Chevy Wagon. Now if I'd had my act together as I approached I might have spotted the big 12 bolt rear end under neath. It went very nicely with the under hood big block. Lotta old wagons came that way because people towed boats, etc. with them. Anyway, on the otherside of the light, the road narrows down to one lane. Naturally, i want the lane. My pickup was pretty quick off the line. Muncie 4 speed, fueler head 283, and 4:11 posi out back with 12 inch wide tires. No top speed, but zippy off the line. I glance over at the little q-tip parked behind the wheel of her wagon and think "oh hell - no problem!". ![]() Pick up a few RPM and wait for the light - changes - ZIP I'm outta there. Only problem is that she's already across the intersection and leaving me in her dust. No, she didn't jump the gun. Not at all. Not only was her car WAY WAY faster than my truck, she dusted me on reaction time. Don't mess with old ladies in station wagons. Most of them ignore you, but some of them will flat hand you your lunch... ![]() angela

Wow. My mom had an olds vista cruiser in green with the faux wood on the side. It had the "455 Rocket" with a single bbl carb. Didn't have the funny hood in the picture though.
I remember many road trips in that car. It had a cassette player on the tranny hump. My dad had one cassette, Andy Williams. Played "Lineman for the County" so many times if I hear it I start to go insane. Augh, now it's playing in my head again!

CAR & DRIVER made a "project" Vistacruiser back in the day...don't remember all the details. I thought they were kinda cool...in a weird way. I'm wondering if the one in the pic might be the C&D car? Did the sign in front of the car say anything?

If I ever build a resto-rod it will be an LS3 powered wagon from the late sixties or early seventies. Probably not a Vista Cruiser, because they're hard to find, but something rather plain looking.

Had a '76 Vista Cruiser w/ the rocket 350 v8 in it. Would beat brand new mustang 5.0s and mid to late 80s 911s from stop light to stop light. Suck down gas like you wouldn't believe.

WOW, that's a bad azz wagon! Me like! I might even be able to suffer the "family truckster" jokes to cruise around in that!

One of the scoutmasters in my troop had that exact vehicle, including racing cams! Except his was brown and rusted!
The floor on the passenger side in the front had a piece of plywood, which if you lifted it up, you could see the road going by... There is a hill on I-87, as it goes alongside lake George in Northern NY. Everytime we hit that hill, he would floor it. The new kids would be wondering why we were passing all of the cars, and then we'd look and we were going 100+, pulling a trailer full of gear, with 2 canoes on top of the stationwagon, and 4 canoes on the trailer!

My dad was an Oldsmobile man, and we had a Vista Cruiser. No, that hood is not stock. He traded it in on a Custom Cruiser, which was larger. That was back in the time of the "land yachts."
