At What Point Do You Have a "Relationship" With a Woman?

A am looking into finding a new girlfriend. I started casually looking about a year ago. Just browsing local taverns and stuff. No real plan--just reconnaissance.

Along the way, hosting a singles party was a local woman. She asked for my contact info (or maybe she stopped by my house one day, I believe, as I just lived around the corner to the party she was hosting) and got my email address. Since then, she's been emailing me listings of women that fit the general criteria for what I'm looking. These emails might come on a daily basis. Essentially, it's like sending me a listing of my Match.com matches (albeit tailored to my bare minimum requirements). She'll call and me messages about local singles parties, too.

As far as I know, I haven't really maintained a two-way relationship. I mean, I'll answer the phone when it rings, but I won't go out of my way to contact this lady. The only recent time was when I actually emailed this woman, letting her know that I've decided to scale back my girlfriend-hunting, and wouldn't be looking until summertime. The woman responded something to the effect of "Well, summer it is, then." In the meantime, she's still been sending me matches off of Match.com.

So does this constitute some official business relationship? I mean, if I find a girl that I like, and actually go through and make an date, does this agent my matchmaker? It's not like she's introducing me to the single women. In this slow market and with the internet, I can search Match.com, too. So she'll email me a listing that'll show up in next Sunday's inbox, anyway. Big whoop. Single women are languishing for weeks and months. And if they get snapped up quickly, heck, I'm not planning on hooking up for several months, at least, anyway. No real loss for us, IMO.

Just because someone is sending me Match.com matches on the internet--does that constitute a business relationship? What if I find a girl on my own (without the assistance of her emails)? What if I decide to go with another Yenta? What if I chose to go directly to the Internet myself? I mean, she can't claim domain on every listing on Match.com just because she sends me email updates on them, can she?

at some point after she's searched your entire apartment,

you'll notice her friends keeping an eye on you when she can't.

and she suddenly thinks she has veto power over your major purchase.

her attitude about the motorcycle will go from "cool" to "you spend how much on that thing?" to "sell it now!".

and the final damning one...she sleeps over, but doesn't want sex.

It's not a business relationship based on what you've said here... unless I missed it, there is no contract or promise of payment if she finds you someone that you click with, right?

If I were you, I'd just peruse what she sends you, check some out if you want to, and just delete the rest. Maybe she's just got time on her hands and is trying to do you a favor. Seems casual... respond in kind.

As to the one sending you emails, some women just can't stand to see a guy happy (single). You owe her nothing more than a thanks...that is unless she introduces you to her cousin that is the sole heir to a fortune.
