They can also live to be 70. Not a dig, but a notice for anyone who wants to just buy a "smart bird" vs a "lifetime investment bird"

I had a grey when I lived in Florida. Be prepared for a LOT of mess and noise. Although she was entertaining sometimes, a big bird is a BIG responsibility, and demanded a LOT of attention. I had her for 20 years and she was still going strong. When we planned our move to the tundra here we thought she would be very unhappy with the climate so we were in a fix as to what to do with her and do the right thing for a pet we had for very long time. Then one day my wife read in the lost and found of the paper that these people in TPA had lost their grey when it escaped and their little girl was broken hearted. We interviewed them and felt that giving her to them was the right thing to do. We hear from them occasionally now and she is doing fine in her new digs. Seriously I danced in the street when she left. I will never own a big bird ever again.

Ive had my Gray for 15 yrs. Hes a great bird. But like Targa said they are noisy and messy. The talking is cute and all, but after a while it can get on your nerves. Mine dont shut up! He mimics every sound, beep, voice, etc, etc.... Theres times I wanna strangle him.

I saw a show on big birds as pets and the place that rescues them. Parrots mate for life and are very, very social. They need a ton of attention. They can if neglected get depressed/crazy and pluck out their own feathers. I think it would probably take a special person to be a good big bird owner.

I prefer a Norwegian Blue myself. Much quieter.

You have to be careful, they get stunned easily.

A Gray's a medium size bird. My bird calls my dog. Says "Nacoma, wanna go out?" My dog hears this and goes crazy , runs for the door. Bad thing is, Bubba says this over and over all day. Drives the poor dog crazy.

| Registered | Pretty sure it is free to a good home. I too have had experience with a Gray, and YES, THEIR ability to mimic sounds is scary, door bell, calling the kids, phone ring, ect, but once you get use to it, it is pretty cool. When we had one & I hosted PCA board meetings I worked with Cesar to say certain words Contact June for info.

I dispute this claim. My sis has had hers for years now, and IMO you cannot get used to a noisy, obnoxious, filthy bird in the living room raising an endless ruckus because it wants someone to play with it. The worst part about these birds is they live for 70+ years. There is no escape from them except in the grave! If only dogs lived so long. | ||
