A thread to remember those who are gone

I was just thinking as I drove home from work about all the businesses that I loved that are now gone. I may be in the minority on my list, but here is what I miss:

Circuit City
Bennigans
Chi Chi's

Both are now gone, and I'm sure there are scores of others that we all miss, what do you miss?

I didn't even realize Chi Chi's had failed. I had some good times there years ago.

Comp USA

I miss Bob's Big Boy and Sambo's.

All the local small business that died when wal-mart and home depot came to town. No more local hardware store to sell you only one nut, one bolt, a few screws, etc.

Which two? :p

Bennigans and Chi CHi's? get out...don't we have enough chain restaurants?

I don't shed a tear when restaurants like those go under..

Circuit City...

Does anyone remember he uproar regarding the original return policy? They changed the policy after a bit of heat from the media, consumer groups etc.

What about Crazy Eddies? The Wiz?

Home Depot
'bout a year and a half after they opened near me.. the local lumber yard close....

It was a place where they had nails in bins, a scale, and different sized brown bags you could carry your nails in. Shovel what looks like the amount of nails you need onto the scale... write the #of pounds on the bag.. pour the nails into the bag..

then go check out...or.. put it on you bill..

I go out of my way to avoid Home Despot.... and go out of my way to find the remaining independent lumber yard/home center

Yes lest we forget..

The businesses and personas mentioned above don't hold a candle..

I'll just list some of the big ones that I have noticed. Mostly because I don't miss Merveyns or Linens n' Things...

Bakers Square, Merveyns, Borders (rumor has it), Linens n' Things, lots of banks.

I'll think of more.

Oh yeah, and for you Denver Guys:

General Hardware on Broadway and Exposition. And cross your fingers for AAA Tradin' Post.

Oh man, if AAA goes I'll shed tear for them. That's the last place in town you can get an odd size metric bolt on a Sunday.

No, I mean a professional team. With a big stadium with luxury boxes and plenty of parking that we can all go to. You know, in Rancho Cucamonga or Riverside.

BGCarrera32 02-10-2009 07:00 PM

While not completely gone, it might not be long (might not make it through '09)

Chrysler
Krispe Kream Donuts
Sbarro
Sirius/XM
Blockbuster

craigster59 02-10-2009 07:01 PM

I've heard Rite Aid and Cost Plus can be added to that list
