Canucks: Question about cashing in my savings.
As part of my 2009 Notfarnow Economic Stimilus Program, I am going to cash in my Canadian Parallel Currency.
It's been a while, like 8 years. Last time I did this, I think I breached some protocol or etiquette and caused quite a flap. What's the best way to handle this with minimal inconvenience and fuss? http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1234496045.jpg |
What's that worth? $3.50? ;)

Wow. CT money is always 'found' money. I probably have $100 (in total) in CT money laying around in 6 different places. Splurge & buy that tool you always wanted or something frivilous. But stay out of the housewares. You are breaking the 'code' by spending it on Fantastic or something mundane.
But have no guilt as the line grows long as they count it out. Just remember the times that you have spent in line while somebody else did likewise. Splurge! Ian |
It looks like you are selling pot or something, all that cash lying around!
Buy some tool that you will probably only use once in your lifetime. That one time it will come in really handy!!! |
"Canadian Tire" , are you the "Bill Gates" of the Canadian snow tire Industry?
|
Just go 4 it.... big spender ;)
I think they sell chocolates? |
Jake,
Please be careful! Releasing that much cash into the markets could lead to devaluation of the currency and a national monetary melt-down. Oh wait, the economy already seems to have gone to *****. Go for it. ;) Les |
Goodies Jake...Goodies for you.

Need any gear for the boat? Spring is just around the corner.

Canadian Tire is one of our most valued institutions in Canada.
They sell auto parts, gasoline, tools (with a lifetime warranty) hardware etc.. Every week they have a good sale. I usually accumulate about 100 to 150 Canadian tire dollars every year, I always use it to buy a tool I have wanted. |
How many canadian tire dollars do you get for real canadian dollars spent at canadian tire?
An then, can you redeem them in real canadian dollars and spend them anywhere you want? |
I dump mine every couple of years. I just show it to the person who lines up behind me. They usually get the idea and move to another cashier.
At first glance I thought that was split hardwood (just woke up). Now I'm wondering if those 3 cent bills might be worth more just thrown in the fireplace. Get something good. Like a Sham-wow. :) |
Oh, by the way I dig your pen/pencil cup.
|
I'm going to make a list of small niggly things that have been driving me bonkers in the garage... missing sockets, allan keys, hardware etc. Actually it might be cheaper to just buy a whole socket set on sale... hmmm.
I think they give 3% on every debit or cash sale Pencil holder is a Weber 32DIR from a LeCar |

I always put my CT cash in the box beside the till. Donations for the needy.

Go buy a money sorter... ;D

I don't know about stores in your areas, but my closest Crappy Tire (Americans: slang for Canadian Tire) is 70% housewares & other garbage with only 30% auto & tool related. The lineups are filled with 'typical Scarborough WalMart shoppers' who always have some trouble or other with their purchases etc. They usually shop in family groups too just to spread the fun around. Note that I am being very PC here.
There is little to no staff. To get a tool from the locked areas usually takes a 5 minute store search to find somebody with a key. And then they have to escort you to a till. All in all, not a pleasant shopping experience. Ian |
If they sell gift cards cash out the dough and buy gift cards for another store.

Returning anything to that store involved a huge wait. It seemed that the person infront of me would be the one returning a floor jack, jackstands, breaker bar, a 1/2inch socket set but he decided to keep the brake pads. I also find that whenever I need to buy something immediately from Canadian tire it will be on sale the next week. |
Their new stores (Parts Source?) are a huge improvement.
|
yup, actually staffed by people who are old enough to drive as well
|
Invest it in a Nigerian Internet Venture!
Heard they beat Madoff’s returns hands down :D |
Are you guys nuts? I love this store!
I grew up in a small town and I can still remember my first time in a Can Tire Store; it was in Edmonton, AB. Amazing.... I bought a full sized wooden toboggan. Now I live in another small Town, only 16,000 people and we've got a Safeway, Zellers and a Canadian Tire. I've become personal buds with the manager there; Gary, who just bounces up and down to help a guy out. He's the best. He'll come up to the cash and tell the cashiers..... "give Rob the last sale price; or give him next weeks sale price, etc" I always take a moment to look for him and say hi. I am surprised that the credit card companies don't get after them for thier "Canadian Tire Bucks", because if you pay with cash or debit card, they'll give you 2% refund in CTire Bucks; but if you pay with Visa or cc, you get nothing. They have to pay Visa 4% user fee..... so its a way that they self promote an extra margin of 2% and look like heros for doing it. Usually the CC companies won't allow this type of promo, but they've gotten away with it for ever? For our Southern friends... the store is loaded with stuff! All kinds of Automotive for the do it yourselfer, with self help cateloges. Sparks, filters, oils, cleaners, wires, do dads of every sort. Bulbs, hitches, fans, car nick naks of every sort. They also sell mowers, ATVs, trailers, tents, camping gear, pool equip and chems, boots, coats, sporting goods. Everything for Christmas decor, BBQs, Every kind of cleaner, bug killer, repellent. Pots 'n pans, every small appliance, tools and tons of tools, paint, brushes, lighting, plumbing, heating. Garden dept, lawn furniture, candy, popsicles, toys. Guns, bullets, gear. And yeah.... tires. They also have a full automotive shop; repairs and service. I love this place; thank God for Crappy Tire! ;) As you leave the store, they have a charity box that you can donate your Ctire bucks to a childrens charity. I put mine in there. My store looks like this one: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1234583799.jpg |

They spelled "Garden Center" wrong. I looked it up on my Spell Chequer.
|
Canadian way to spell is "Centre"; however we often use the American verison too. ;)
Labor is Labour in Canada Neighbor is Neighbour in Canada we're a foreign Country ya know. |
Rob, you totally missed it!!! Reread the post again and focus on the second sentence.
|
oooooKay? I saw the 2nd sentence and figured it was a pun off the first?
Don't Americans spell it "Center"? WTF does it really matter in the big scheme of things anyway? You're a good $hit Dave looking out for my 6 and all ;) If you really want a date for V-Day; get a haircut dude ;) ha, ha. kidding, I love ya like a brother, you know that. |

I started migrating to Parts Source last year. Agree that the prices are higher but the staff is very good. I have 2 near me. They also lend out the tool that you need for 911 balljoints which really helped me last summer.
I didn't know they were a CTC company . . . Ian |
The closest Canadian Tire to me happens to be the biggest in Canada (for now):
