It was a good movie - great acting.
I don't want to give anything away - but I'm sure, if you like a non-stop type action film -- this is the one.

Does anyone die?

I don't want to watch a movie where someone dies. Especially if that dying involves an extended fight scene, and possibly having their neck broken.

Nope, none of that. No gunfire, no car chases, no punching, no swearing, and for the lovagod no hot chick as the daughter who was taken.

So, there's nothing like that, right?

Just got back from seeing it. Wow! What a breath of fresh air after seeing a slew of crummy boring action movies. Definitely worth checking out.

If you can, see the original version that was released out of North America a couple of months ago.

I downloaded it last month, and then went and saw it again in the theatres last night, and there are a LOT of really cool/violent scenes (especially the torture stuff) that have been cut from the NA release.

Still a great movie, but he's SO much more of a bad-ass in the non-NA release.

Don't bring a chick to this flick because it's definitely not a chick flick.

According to IMDB:

# The UK cinema version has an alternate electrocution torture sequence. In the original version, Neeson stabs two metal spikes into the legs of his hostage and connects the jump leads to them. In the US version, he simply attaches the leads to the metal chair. This is completely different footage redone to secure a lower rating.

# Some of the shoot outs, the torture scene and some fisticuffs have been shortened in length for the film's US release to secure a PG-13 rating.

How many different versions of "Taken" are there?

France '-12' (all media) original version same as what was seen in most countries and the UK '18' 'Extended, Harder Cut' version (available on DVD and Blu-ray)

UK '15' theatrical version

US 'PG-13' version (which is edited from the UK '15' theatrical version)

A little far fetched, but an excellent movie.
It's true about Albanians, mass exodus from Albania to a lot of European countries.
I know one thing for sure, Italy is not happy about it, kinda like are illegal mexicans.

Okay - I'll be the lone dissenter.

The plot was just an unusually low budget, unimaginative variation of the already tired "kidnapped" action movie. The last one of this genre I watched was "Man on Fire" which I thought was infinitely better. Turn the knob up to 11 for the amount of belief that one must suspend in this clunker. Not even cool fakeness like riding on the tail of a F-35 (yeah, I know) Raptor, but more the lame "the bag guys just ain't fightin' back" variety of fake. As far as cast, Famke Janssen was less a bytch when playing the Phoenix. Must have blew the X-men paycheck. I felt deep sorrow for Liam Neison, who's financial situation or lack of better offers can be the only reasons he took the role. Even his usually fine performance was monumentally flacid, until now, unmatched since Costner's performance in "Robin Hood". As for the other nameless, B actors, I was rooting for the bad guys to kill them off. I left the theater craving an Audi for some weird reason. Must have been the unrelenting product placement. I give it a D+.

Flame away.
