I've owned a K-22, a Single Six and still have a P-22. If I had to pick one, I'd go with a Ruger Mk-II or some variant thereof. They have such a great balance and just look like a modern Luger. When I was at the Phoenix gun "buyback", one of my buddies stole a .22/45 for a $100 grocery gift card before the police got it for the manhole cover program.

My browning is a 1970 purchase date Challenger...back when they were still made in Belgium. It's been a good shooter for many years.

I'm doing a year-end gun inventory, I'm sure between the house and the shop ther must be a dozen .22 handguns. It's hard to have too many and they take up so little space.

I have a Buckmark. Its a great little gun.

+1 there. I have two Ruger Single Sixes. Both deadly accurate and beautiful little pistols. They also come with 22 mag interchangeable cylinders.

My dad used to shoot competitively, and he swears by his run-of-the-mill, blued Ruger Mk. II which he purchased in the late 80s. I can't really comment on the difficulty of breakdown vs other pistols as this is the only automatic I have ever taken down (and that was with my dad looking over my shoulder), but I can tell you that I have put thousands of rounds of ammo through it and have never, ever had a problem. Great balance and accuracy, reliable etc.

I bought my wife a 380 Beretta for home protection and after a combat course she was hooked.
The 380 ammo is too expensive and the Beretta is a POS for target shooting. (absolutely horrible trigger). It will find the sweet spot on a silhouette but struggle to find the bullseye. I went on the .22 search. My final decision was the High Standard Supermatic Trophy. It's a little heavy but the balance and trigger are superb.

Mine likes Fiocchi or Eley Match.

ruger mark III 22/45. stainless 6" 7/8 bull barrel fluted. cant go wrong on price and once agin go to volquartzen and look at the goodies.

traded a clapped out 6x fixed leupold(which my buddy returned and got another-free) and i got his red-dot scope. add some QD(quik-dick) scope mts to retain yer zero and knock the living hell out of ohio blue tip matches at 100yds all day. with match ammo.

amazing gun and with ruger an hour a way..........well nothing more needs to said.

only other i would consider is smith and wessons 10-shot 8" barrel stainless and you will choke on the price....................but its dead nuts 100yd accurate also.

hell colts are damn fine also.

quik dick mts for scope so ya can also holster it.

I went and handled a few today. No Brownings in stock. The Ruger didn't quite fit my hand right, but I suppose grips can be swapped. I did get to hold a S&W 41. Beautiful gun, but the grip shape is annoying. That is the problem with "anatomical" grips - if they don't fit you then they don't fit you. The S&W isn't cheap either. They also had some high standards from the 50's as well. Pretty nice. I'm heading to another shop to check out the Beretta Neos and a few other Rugers. They did have a Colt Woodsman but it was close to $2K.

While I was there I bought an 870 though, so it wasn't a total loss :D Now off to the range...

The Buckmark is a great gun. It is what I use with my kids to start with. The High Standard is an even easier gun to strip and likewise is excellent. That is the first handgun I learned to handle.

All of the above Rugers and Brownings are nice but that SOB Henry beat me to it...I have a penchant for the old High Standards...beautifully made pistols.
And becoming more collectable everyday.

Take a look at the Supermatic 101..it is a bit lighter than the above., with a swept back grip. What is shown above is a HS Supermatic Trophy Military 106 or 107...The HS line is a bit complex to understand but once ya got it down its a cinch.


Also the S&W K22 is a very nice gun along with the Colt Officers Models..in 22LR. The 22 was made from the 30's until 1970...

Going back to the single six, I never found mine to be that accurate. Something about having to regrip after cocking the hammer on each shot.

Browning...period! Too bad they aren't made in Belgium these days. Well, maybe a sig trailside.

Yup have two Belgian mad A5s and I think that challenger of dads is too. Cant beat a belgian browning.
