San Antonio Qs
Anyone live in San Antonio? I'll be relocating this summer to Ft. Sam Houston. I'm looking to rent since I'll be there about a year and I need a good school for a 5th Grader.
Any advice? |

Try (Rick) Nathans_Dad. I think he used to live there before his recent move to Dallas/Fort Worth.

Really good schools are between 281 and I-10 on Loop 1604. Anywhere a tad South of there is good and anything North between these 2 highways will yield great schools.
You dont want your kid going to any school around Ft. Sam.....

Lived there about 2 years ago.
Basically you want to buy/rent in north central SA. Don't buy anything in the south areas of town. Don't buy around Ft. Sam, commuting is easy in SA, not too much traffic. I used to play golf at Ft. Sam all the time, I could get there in 15 minutes from my house easy. Churchhill is a good High School, good area of town (used to live in Churchhill Estates). Only drawback to that area is you are in the flight path of the airport. SA is kind of wierd that way, all the good neighborhoods are in north central SA which happens to also be where the airport is. Good news is you don't even register the planes anymore after 3 months or so. Great mexican food at La Fogata, best margaritas in town are the Prickly Pear Margaritas at Boudreau's at the Riverwalk. Be sure to visit all the neat towns in the hill country, Gruene is one of my favorites although Fredricksburg is more well known. Good luck! SA is a great town!

Scuba Steve: I'm following you. I'm in Seattle now, going to SA this summer for a stint. Nathan's Dad and everyone else who has responded, thank you. I don't plan to live around Ft. Sam, I can commute a little, no problem. Priority is a good neighborhood/school combo, then a commute not more than about 45min, and a commute easy for wife who's an RN. I used to be stationed in Kingsville and Corpus Christi and I've taken a 2 week class at Trinity and have visited SA a couple of times. But I know nothing about living there. Thanks to all of you for your responses. |
