The father shall not marry his son's widow; a man shall not marry his wife's daughter, or his wife's daughter's daughter, or his wife's son's daughter, or the daughter of his brother or sister; and the like prohibition shall extend to females in the same degrees. All marriages prohibited by this subsection are incestuous and void. (2) Any marriage between persons of the same gender is prohibited and null and void from the beginning. Any marriage between persons of the same gender that is valid in another jurisdiction does not constitute a legal or valid marriage in Mississippi |

The original post by frogger touted that Trent Lott was resigning as good news for Mississippi.
Today Dickie Scruggs, Lott's brother in law, was indicted for bribing a judge $40,000 to obtain a favorable ruling in an award of $26.5 million in attorneys fees to Scruggs in Katrina related attorneys fees in a lawsuit against insurance companies. Only problem was was that the judge was working with the FBI in a sting operation and has the conversations re: the bribe on tape. Scrugg's former law partner has recently been convicted of bribing judges and sentenced to 11 years. As for Lott...rumor here has it that his resignation has something to do with a sex scandal involving a male escort service. |

The plot thickens....another judge was indicted on five federal charges related to bribery. He was allegedly making favorable rulings in an effort to help Trent Lott's BIL and another lawyer in exchange for consideration of a federal judgeship appointment. Investigation ongoing. More indictments to follow.
