I doubt that to be the case. I would think that type of decision would severely hinder a teams ability to get new drivers.
If that is the case, expect NASCAR to go by the wayside in a few years. It definitely isn't STOCK CAR, as in "NA STOCK CAR AR", racing. I guess it takes an engineer to make people believe that racing technology comes to 'American' cars. That said, I watch NASCAR and visit events, but really only because I know a driver and enjoy the racing. Has nothing to do with supporting a manufacturer or NASCAR itself.

Joey Logano raced at the Daytona 500 last weekend. He's 18 and I'm guessing that he doesn't even have a GED.

I believe Ryan Newman (sp) is the only driver with a degree in engineering.

Why do you need a degree in driving a train to drive a car?

There are some bright drivers, no doubt. However, most don't have an advanced formal education. Drivers today must start very young. It's hard to complete mandatory schooling when you are racing every weekend and some week nights, not to mention working on the car or other team support.
But, if they were to get a degree, it should be in communications. Seriously. Even marketing. |
