I work with an Egyptian guy, and a Persian guy (he refuses to call himself Iranian).. When we worked night shift. We would go to Steinway Street in Astoria, NYC...where there are many Egyptian, Lebanese, and other Arab restaurants.. I smoked shisha with them... to me not fun at all...don't like tobacco, don't like smoke.. and I used to smoke pot like cheech and chong..... now I treat my body a bit better... Try it so you can say you experienced it....

I went to a hooka bar while in San Fran about ten years ago. It was up in the haight area. Kind of kooky, but kind of fun. Little head buzz.

i've owned about 6 hookahs. goes down smooth, which is definitely the scary part....each bowl of tobacco has about as much nicotine as a whole pack of cigarettes. my middle eastern friends introduced me to it back in 2001 in college. at my peak, i was smoking it about 6 times a day. definitely addictive stuff. the fruit flavors are good. double apple is one of the flavors that people "really" smoke. mint (but not menthol) is another great flavor. also, give white grape a try. btw: the buzz isn't really from the nicotine (it's a contributing factor)....but it's extremely easy to become hypoxic from displacing O2 with CO. be careful. i dont smoke anymore.

shisha can also refer to the pipe/device itself, depending on your location in the middle east

I still have the hookah that I've had since college. Haven't smoked it since then either. It was hever used for tobacco, but it worked well with alternate substances. I bought it at Disney World (!!) in the late 70's. Bet they don't sell them there any more.

There must be 4 or 5 with in walking distance of school, but I've never set foot in one. It's actually funny to read the weekly log in the school rag for the arrest record on or near campus. 4/5ths are for pot, right near the hooka bars.
