QR Codes or Data Matrix anyone?? 2D barcodes
So, does anyone use QR code or Data Matrix for personal or business use? I had started seeing them refered to when I got my G1 phone a few months ago. I realized that I had seen them around, shipping, labeling, etc....
Last night I started reading and tinkering. I think they are pretty cool. Seems a great idea for business cards, you can encode a vCard and have it printed on your vCard. Then with a capable phone or I assume a webcam, you could import the business card with the click of a button. Another possible use would be a sticker with your name and address. You could put it on stuff that might be stolen. It probably wouldn't get removed and would be a good way to identify that it was your stuff later. One of the more common uses it seems is a way to easily get a URL into your web enabled phone. So, you have a blackberry, or whatever, you want to get a link from your PC to your phone. The webpage could have a QR Code that you could photograph, or if you use Firefox, there is an extension that will give you the code for any webpage or even a selection of text from a webpage. Apparently the Japanese have embraced them, and the US seems to be the last to adopt their use. Just curious who else is aware. My signature (minus the smiley) ![]() My work vCard ![]() Another interesting tidbit that I happened across while I was reading about them is that there is already a virus for RFIDs.
