Computer display question
How do I find out if my graphics card will support a 1920 x 1080 display?
The computer is a Dell with a ati radeon hd 2400. When I go to display settings >> advanced setting >> list all modes the list of valid modes does not show this setting. Does this mean the card will not support this display or are those only the modes I can run with my current display?

No, what that probably means is that your current monitor won't support that res.
The graphics chip for the ATI Radeon HD 2400 will support up to 8192x8192. I suspect that the card that the chip is on probably won't support that high. Are you thinking about getting a new monitor and you want to know if the onboard graphics will support it? What model of Dell, with a search online, it should be easy to figure out. Most cards these days don't seem to have a problem supporting up to 1920x1080 or 1920x1200.

I wonder why resolution supported isn't one of the things listed on the features page at the AMD website.

It's a Dell XPS 420.
I want to add a second monitor and wanted to be sure it would work.

I believe your max res should be around 2048x1536.

A search foir ATI Radeon takes you to an AMD web page so I figured AMD made the graphics card. http://ati.amd.com/products/Radeonhd2400/index.html
Guess I will give it a try but that rules out mail order and limits me to Best Buy for the easy return.

AMD bought ATi a few years ago... so AMD in a round-about way makes graphics cards.
As long as the video card says it can support dual monitors you should be ok. Looking in the instruction manual should tell you the max resolutions you can run on both of the monitors.

If it has two VGA or dmi ports on the card then it supports dual monitors
Otherwise pick up a second card if you have an open slot in the case Current resolution options shown are what the current monitor supports, not necc the highest that the card will support |
