Second/Supplemental Jobs

Does anyone here have one or thinking of getting one to supplement their main income?

i have considered being a 911SC car salesman, for a one time sale.

i have been kicking around ideas of using my eng license to make more money. but the economy hurts my plans. i had the chance to write engineering reports for commercial properties, but sales have tapered. i dont think they need me anymore.

I have my home improvement business on the side. Not supplementing much though, things are awfully slow.

I've been considering getting a second job, but my current one is requiring me to travel a lot more now. I don't know how I could start a new job and immediately start requesting a few days off every other week.

weekly radio "car column". Not big $$ but it's easy stuff, loads of fun, gets my name out there and has opened up a couple other doors.

I'm still buying used VW diesel engines and selling the bits into the US.

I don't personally have a second job, but my wife is a commercial banker during the day and then teaches piano three nights per week. She goes to the students' houses and teaches there, currently 14 students over 8 or 9 households.

The fact of the matter is that she does it because she likes it... the extra money is definitely nice but we don't need it to get by. This means that she is also discriminating in taking on or keeping students; she has no qualms about dropping students, and she is constantly turning away new potential students who have heard about her through the grapevine. She also travels occasionally for business, and her students are really understanding about working with her schedule... helps a lot that she goes to them, not vice-versa.

At the end of the day she does it because she likes to do it, which I think is really cool.

My main income evaporated. I've been welding on cars part time for 3 years (beyond my own). I guess that's my income now.

I've picked up a little more car work lately. Not regular, but decent $$. I would try everything possible to work for yourself, on your schedule, before signing up for a W2.

I have been contemplating this... especially since I'm getting two days a month off without pay.

And hanging out in affluent bars waiting for a rich old woman to hit on me isn't working out like I planed.

State job, right? Well, CA. has a budget; isn't it time to lift the "Friday off" thing?

I've been considering this as well but my new job has me working 12-13 hours a day plus it looks like I will have to work Saturdays for a while.

I really don't know if I could squeeze another job into my day.

I DO like to spend time with my wife and kids.

My wife does have a business in selling kid's clothes online so that is helping out right now.

I thought about working at an auto parts store on weekends. I hate retail but I do know how to work on most cars.

No word as of yet... I thought the to days off were part of the budget...

However I have heard rumors that it might go away sooner than the mandated eighteen months.

Taking the cut in pay sucks... getting two three day weekends a month (not counting holidays) not so much.

I'm still not giving up the search for a rich old woman to take care of me.

I have done IT work "on the side" for over 10 years, but I just lost 2 clients, so I'm looking to do something else... I'm trying to do side work for a local ammo reloading business since I really enjoy reloading, but I haven't heard back from them yet...

Don't most guys just send their wives to work?

always had multiple incomes ever since I can remember.
I love to shoot for the moon, but not without a safety net below.

- Construction Engineer
- Land Investor (holding & rezoning)
- Developer (infastructure development)
- Builder (Res & Com)
- RE Agent (licensed Realtor)
- Land Consultant (pre-development, planning, zoning)
- Claims Consultant (liens, changes, actions, liasson)
- Small Loans Biz (high %interest)
- Business Consultant (business plans/support)
- RE Rentals, Investments (revenue properties)
- Investment Consultant (8% fixed returns)
- Just started "Air Services" Biz (own a plane now)
- Lumber Distribution (source direct lumber purchases, truck)
- Open to ideas? Got any?

I'm a walkin, talkin, tax right off baby!

I'm looking at an investment opportunity right now with a marketing/trucking JV company in the US that advertises on semi-trucks; they currently have 22,000 truck contracts in place with a potential to double that with an investor. (my Uncle's company).

I had a very interesting day yesterday, entertaining the executive director from the largest publicly traded real estate development company in Canada.... right here in my own home in little 'ol Salmon Arm (population of 16,000)..... very interesting to see what these guys are doing to make money in RE right now! They're on the move!

I'm "asking" for multiple income streams that are diversified by industry.
Too many eggs in the RE basket last couple years.
