What do young people think of old 911s today?

I was just pondering this. When I was a young kid around 8 or 9, just getting interested in cars, all 911s looked the same to me, because, between 65 and 85 they didn't really change that much in appearance, to a young kid who hasn't yet learned the details. All I knew then is I preferred the ones with whale tails. But I wonder what kids that age or older think of the older 911s nowadays. I've talked to several teenagers who drool over the 996/997 lines, just like I drooled over the 930 lines when I was that age. But the difference between a 997 and, say, an SC is marked, much more so than the difference between a 3.2 and a longhood. I don't really care what kids think of my car, I'm curious as to how the lines stand up to people who grew up knowing a more modern alternative, and how that history stacks up. Yeah, ok, so I'm procrastinating getting back to work tonight Thoughts?

I still lust after early cars. About to make myself sick over that 300$ 914 I posted in that other thread. I swear these pcars are an infectious disease

i think even the earlier cars are still recognizable by youngsters. last year, when 'd take my SC to the gas station, even 5-6 year olds would recognize it and say "porsche" on another note... it's just such a recognizable car. at most of the gas stations here in indiana, the "pay at the pump" screen has picture of a 911 on it. i took my 911 to get filled up, and a lady at the next pump mentioned that she liked my car. i jokingly said "oh yeah....actually, if you look at your gas pump, there's a picture of it on there for ya." she, in perfect airhead fashion, asked "whoa, how do the pumps show a picture of each person's car on it??"

I know I could when I was younger. Of course my dad is always talking about wanting a 911. He does not find it funny that he bought a 944 found he couldn't get in and out of it and ended up letting me drive it. I sure don't complain though.

On deceleration lifting off of boost in my 22 yr/old 930 stopping at a red light the youngsters just love the flame throwing Zork tube. I think the young crowd really digs these older cars as their body lines are timeless. Even ricers give me an acknowledgment node at the light Every now and then someone will pull up and tell me my car was on fire just a min ago

When My Son had his drawing placed in the State competition it always had all the young kids hanging around it, they were dragging their parents over to it saying "look at this cool Porsche" but it did have the name on it too!

Do you really care? Whether they like them or not, if it comes up in conversation, at least make sure they know it's two syllables. But do it with a smile.

cgarr - VERY SWEET! Your son has talent! Back on topic, the neighbor kids (~13) aren't into my '87 or the '85 or the '79 I had. They were really into my friends '99 996 and no his '04 turbo. Also they were really gathered around a friends Pantera. Probably they've never seen or heard of one before.

Picking up pizza the other day. Two kids maybe 17-19 standing outside just starred. Then the one said "F**K that's sexy. Wow what a beautiful car." They walked over to it and drooled. Went to the movies last Saturday, family in a minivan pulls up and they all get out. The little girl maybe 10 looks over from 25-30 feet and says "cool car!" Kids know a classic design.

Most teenage car guy's know what's up with these old cars. Even the ricers hold these cars in reverence, especially after a rolling boost demo. The biggest fans are the 35-50 year old car guys.

Kids DO seem to recognize and appreciate these older 911's. I was waiting at a light in my black '84 just last week and as a couple of boys walked by, they both stared - I mean they slowed down and STARED. Then one of the kids said to me "cool car" with a big smile on his face. I nodded, smiled, and said thanks. I love that about these cars. They really are timeless beauties. | ||
