				Question about being contagious

My wife has had this nasty flu for over a week. How long is someone contagious? No fever, just "hacking" up green crap

Don't know about contagious but I (and a bunch of people at work) had it a few weeks ago and it seems to be a two week thing (give or take a few days). Give your wife lots of soup and juice.

When is the Flu Contagious? - A person can spread the flu a day before he or she feels sick - Adults can continue to pass the flu virus to others for another three to seven days after symptoms start - Children can pass the virus for longer than seven days - Symptoms start one to four days after the virus enters the body - Some people can be infected but show no symptoms yet still spread the virus to others. http://www.weather.com/activities/health/coldandflu/cfflufacts.html | ||

the green stuff likely isnt the flu. green, or bright yellow, may indicate bacterial infection.

For starters it might be any bug in the book. Not just the flu (if you are referring to the Influenza virus). As the viral shedding is extremely varying between different bugs, there is no way of telling how long a certain individual is contagious. Generally speaking its possible to shed virus as long as there are any symptoms left, although the highest numbers will occur during the first part of the illness. As a rule of thumb (with adults), if you can avoid coughing in the face of other people and regularly wash your hands, the risk of handing over a complementary bug to your friends is small. And I am currently drunk BTW..

I'm SO glad I wasn't eating or drinking when I read your post. I'd be wiping down my desk! Something about that line right after the thoughtful technical answer just cracked me up!
