Where YOUR hard earned tax dollars are being spent
Earlier this week, the House Oversight Committee revealed that just one week receiving an $85 billion bailout, AIG executives went on a retreat to a luxury resort, spending nearly $500,000 on manicures, facials, pedicures, and massages, among other things. After being ridiculed for the vacation, AIG announced today that the parties are over. 10/9/08
As ailing Wachovia Corp. waits to see whether it will be acquired by Wells Fargo & Co. or Citigroup Inc. -- possibly with taxpayers paying the tab for hundreds of billions of dollars in bad loans -- some of the company's top brokers are preparing to depart Saturday for an all-expenses-paid cruise of the Greek Isles. The weeklong trip for up to 75 employees of brokerage A.G. Edwards, which Wachovia acquired last year for nearly $7 billion, will also include spouses and significant others, said Teresa Dougherty, a Wachovia spokeswoman. 10/10/08 AIG executives may not be making better business decisions while they're asking the federal government for more money, but at least they're getting sneakier! An ABC News investigation has revealed that a conference last week at the Pointe Hilton Squaw Peak Resort in Phoenix was another chance for AIG executives to frolic (on the taxpayers' dime). 11/8/08 NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- The government forced Citigroup to cancel its order for a brand new $50 million corporate jet. Now, two Congressmen are hoping that the Obama administration will convince the beleaguered bank to scrap its naming rights deal with the New York Mets. 1/30/09 Struggling on the verge of collapse and begging for a $45BILLION dollar taxpayer bailout to stay afloat, you would think the illegal immigrant friendly Bank of America would have put that money to good use, you know, approving loans, extending new lines of credits, fulfilling obligations to current lines of credit and spreading money on “Main Street”, right? Wrong: Despite a near collapse that required $45 billion in federal taxpayer bailout funds, Bank of America sponsored a five day carnival-like affair just outside the Super Bowl stadium this past week. 2/2/09 Associated Bank is moving from the welfare line to the conga line. Just three months ago, the state's second-largest bank joined scores of other troubled lenders when it cashed a check for $525 million from the federal government to prop up its bottom line. Today, Associated is preparing to drop tens of thousands of dollars - and maybe more - to send about 100 employees to a posh Puerto Rican resort as a reward for a job well done. 2/11/09 Northern Trust sponsored a PGA event in California last week. The entertainment Web site TMZ reports the bank flew in hundreds of employees and clients. It says they were housed in expensive hotels in the Los Angeles area and treated to dinners and concerts, including one by Sheryl Crow. The problem: The bank got $1.6 billion in government funds. 2/24/09 New York’s top legal officer on Thursday demanded Bank of America Corp Chief Executive Kenneth Lewis provide names of Merrill Lynch executives who received 2008 bonuses, and how much they got, before the bank’s takeover of the firm in January. Executive compensation is a burning issue in the financial industry and challenges to pay are being led by New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo, whose office deposed former Merrill CEO John Thain on Tuesday for a second time over $3.6 billion in bonuses. 2/27/09

Post this in the appropriate forum, "Parf". There is a new playground for these sort of posts.

I wasn't sure if this was considered PARF since it is not political or religious but economic and an observation of the fiscal responsibility of the business world. We can delete this thread if it belongs in PARF.
Please close this thread and go to the PARF section of town. p.s. Am I the only one that feels that "PARF" has that weird feeling like "MILF"

I've read things like this everywhere. I don't know much about political but doesn't the government require any condition, or they just hand out the checks for free? And isn't anyone doing anything about this?
