Giugiaro must have had "designers block"

Maserati Bora looked VERY similar. Google it.

I don't think "designers block" is a fair assessment when you consider that Giugiaro was credited with basically creating the "folded paper" concept of car design that dominated that era. Besides the Tapiro and the Bora he also designed the Lotus Esprit, De Lorean DMC 12, Maserati Merak and Quattroporte, BMW M1, etc. etc.).

^^ All those cars had very similar "looks"... but all of them looked pretty fantastic, to tell the truth. Although the real thing is unremarkable for anything but kitsch value, the DeLorean is the car that got me interested in cars (thanks, Doc Emmett Brown!)

Some Europeans might recognize the shape from the Michel Vaillante Comic books,
That range of comic books was about a family of french car makers who raced, and the books were full of car models , the known, and the lesser known.

The Vaillante team always raced with stunning cars, that had a footing in real life, one looked almost exactly like this Tapiro

very cool cartoon! The car on the top left looks exactly like it was modeled after the Tapiro.

the bottom pic, the Vaillante is the blue one on the left... could be 906/8/10 based
The Red one, is not a Ferrari, but a "Leader", the arch enemy of the Vaillante's... But it's obviously Ferrari based

Anyway, i grew up with those comic books, they started in the 60'ies(comic book 60ies, they were released later), and followed the racing/car scene closely... mainstream cars are the competitors, the lesser known prototypes end up as the Vaillante cars.. Guest appearances of famous racers, Ickx Prost, Senna, Boutsen, the works..
And non F1 or Endurances, Safari Rally, Dakar, Motor racing... all sorts...
