Amunition shortage or is something up?

I went to buy some .223 the other day at Sportsman's warehouse and could not find one box. I asked the clerk what is up with this and he said for the last four months they can not keep any ammunition in-stock...as soon as it come in its snatched up. No .357 or 45 cal were available either...I headed to Walmart and noticed their ammunition was very low. I also checked out Cabelas, pretty much all of their .223 is on back order. I know the military uses this round but something seems funky about this.

Am I missing something?

Zombies are coming....

I think the drug gangs are buying it all up to use in their war against the mexican army. I read an article yesterday that a couple of guys bought 20,000 rounds at a cabelas and paid with 10,000dls cash.

Yes, there is currently a run on ammo. Everyone is being blamed, Obama (rightfully so), Iraq, zombies, etc.

However, if you need some .223, I know where there are a few boxes (new Remington UMC) sitting right now. I'll sell them to you for cost/shipping. Please PM if interested.

Edit: Oops...I noticed you are in CA. Nevermind.

since the election, people have been snatching up any firearms or ammunition they can find. They fear it is going to be highly regulated ( with the current administration and congress , it probably will be soon ). In our area I've never seen such activity. They are having gun shows in several locations every week, and guns and ammo are disappearing rapidly. If you plan on doing any shooting in the future, I'd load up with whatever you can find now!

Interesting reading on the matter.

Can you own a semi-automatic rifle? Can you carry a concealed weapon?

No thanks. I'll stick it out here in the ghetto.

rattlsnak 03-03-2009 07:23 PM

das boot. sent you a PM..

Canada Kev 03-03-2009 07:23 PM

Semi-auto rifle, yep. Concealed weapon or handgun, no.

Our gun registry has kinda been relaxed with our new Prime Minister, but it is still rather restrictive. Funny how all the crooks still can get them...

I started stockpiling .223 in January 2008.

I'm having trouble getting reloading supplies at this point.

Porsche-O-Phile 03-04-2009 04:59 AM

.223 is flying off the shelves very quickly. Even the oddball calibers (7.62x??mm), etc. are getting expensive.

Good thing I bought when I did.

Ah, the joys of hand loading and bullet casting. The only things I'm on the hook for commercially are powder and primers. Got plenty of both.

onewhippedpuppy 03-04-2009 05:27 AM

Isn't there talk of micro-coding and additional regulation of ammunition? Dark times.........

charleskieffner 03-04-2009 05:28 AM

wow you guys are about 6 months late on the ammo grab. try finding goofy ass .380 rounds. i guess america is going to defend itself from zombees with .380's. what a hoot. about fell over when ammo to go a few weeks ago was sold out of .380.

Yeah, but how much do you have? Hell, we shot 700+ rounds on Sunday, though about 500 of those were .22lr.

I ordered another 1K of .223, and might add an additional 2K rounds while I'm at it...but eventually I'll shoot it all and have to buy more.

phoenix_iii 03-04-2009 09:33 AM

I can't see how you guys can afford to shoot anymore... I'm glad I bought my stocks in 2002 or so... $7 for a box of .45acp (cheap) and $9 for regular grade... now it's like $16 for Blazer!! I bought .22lr conversions...

VINMAN 03-04-2009 09:57 AM

I've been buying a few boxes of ammo every week. The guys in Dicks Sporting Goods look at me like I'm crazy. But they even said they cant keep it on the shelves. The one gun shop I get most of my stuff from goes through .223 like water. I should have enough 223 and .40 to keep the zombies at bay for a week or two!

legion 03-04-2009 10:33 AM

Farm & Fleet had a sale on .223 this weekend: $8 for a box of 20.

They were not actually shipped any .223, so they were offering rainchecks. Not sure where I am in line, but I have a ticket in my wallet that enables me to buy 10 boxes at $8...whenever they come in.
