What's this F350 worth?

Found this truck on Craigslidt here in Vancouver: http://vancouver.en.craigslist.ca/cto/1058696495.html
I sent the guy an email: he bought it about a year and a half ago from the States when our dollar was at par (or better). What would it fetch in the States today? I checked ebay and it looks like it would go for the $13-15K range. Mileage is 136K miles (220K Km). He says the PO had a liftime fluid service package and he's always had it serviced by Ford as well. Is he out of line?

How much fuel is in it?

I think $10K or $11 is a good price.

Wow.. big deal....

I think its pricey...Those aftermarket add ons don't warrant a premium for a 140K truck

12k is about right for that truck. The 7.3L diesel is VERY desirable for its durability and fuel mileage. The grew cab is great too. If all the service was performed at the dealer, get an OASIS report on the truck and find out it's history. It will tell you any time that truck has been to a Ford dealer, even if it was to change a light bulb. You can expect about 18-20mpg highway and about 16mpg towing a moderate load. 136000 miles is just past the break-in period on that motor. With the proper maintenance, a 7.3L will go 300k-400k miles before an overhaul.
I just went from a 2005 F250 with the 5.4L gasser to a 2005 F350 King Ranch dually diesel. Paid just shy of 25k. I looked around for a while and found that used diesels of any kind don't stay on the lot very long. Most were gone within 7 days. If it were me, I'd offer 12k. If he holds out, he'll probably get 14k for it. Remember...CASH talks!

OK, How do you know? What upgrade are you referring to? Is there some info out there on the net you can point me to? Thanks in advance. I appreciate all the replies.

$10-11k if it's real nice. With more miles, that's an $8k truck these days. $18k buys a mint 2006 version of that truck w/ way under 100k miles. I've been studying the market like a hawk for quite a while, I can tell you the month-to-month fluctuations over the last year. I also have a friend at a huge Ford truck dealer who gives me auction reports.

I'm not aware of any particular problems w/ 2000/2001 transmissions, all 4R100 auto trans are prone to failure at around 100k miles. Some do and some don't but I always factor in a trans if no receipt for a good, legit rebuild in recent history.

As a data point, here is a truck I had my eye on a short time back. It failed to sell on eBay for $13.5k, IIRC, $11k cash would have probably bought it. 120k miles, one owner since brand new and absolute freaking showroom condition. I had him send me high-res pics of the under carraige, I mean this thing is mint. No action for ~$13k. This would have been a $16k truck easily one year ago.

They are prone to a mechanical diode failure. You can go to thedieselstop.com and find out all kinds of stuff on them. The trm1620 hd replacement from ford was around 3500 and that is with me doing the labour. Then they will not warranty it unless you put in a new ota cooler. Since heat is a problem with that tranny the recommended upgrade is the cooler from a newer 6 ltr. Up here in Canada the dealer wanted nearly 750 for that. Good thing for the internet as I found one in Rhode island for half that. I have about 350000k on my truck and it is my daily driver. I would not trade it for a new one. DPTUNER makes a great programmable chip for it that really brings it to life.

A friend of mine has a 2000 F350 with the 5.4 gas. Its on transmission #3 and transfer case #3 at 120,000 miles. The 5.4 is too underpowered to tow the capacity that Ford rates it capable of towing, and I believe he cooks transmissions because the thing constantly downshifts with that underpowered engine. He tows a 6,000 lb trailer of gear and it feels like a Reliant K trying to pull a ski boat. A 7.3 diesel or whatever they offer over the 5.4 would *probably* make it an o.k. truck... He blew the whole right bank of the engine at 77k miles, the electric door locks on the rear cab doors cooked, all the ball joints up front are shot and the brake calipers have been rebuilt twice. He's hard on the truck, but not that hard.

Not for Canadian prices. In BC, black book wholesale value at that mileage is $14962. $13500 in Ontario. The 7.3L diesel is a $2200 (WS) option.

Just shows you the difference in US vs CDN prices for some vehicles. On the other hand, I'm trying to source an 05 Ram 2500 and it's cheaper to buy in Canada.

That motor can barely move the truck around empty. My regular cab stripped F-250 4x4 weighed 6400 lbs. empty. (Granted the diesel in it weighed more than a 5.4). What was he thinking?

As for his other problems, I've spent a lot of time on the biggest Ford truck boards and never heard of anyone having the other problems he's had. I can't recall ever hearing of a fried transfer case on a Superduty. Not saying it doesn't happen, just never heard it. And you get a quick feel for the weak links of these trucks on those boards, just like you do for 911s on the tech board here.

I think he just didn't know, and I agree on the 5.4, I think it had something to do with his wife hating diesels... Nice motor in a Mustang but not in that bus.
