Photos from India.

Just back from India. Sick. Jetlagged as hell. Travel home was brutal. 36 hours in transit. 2 hour layover Heathrow terminal 5 turned into 6 hours. Terminal 5 is not the worst place in the world to be stuck, but we were fried.

This is a small portion of about 1500 photos I took. None are edited or cleaned up.

Most of the photos were taken in Karnal, about 120km north of New Delhi. Its a rough corner of the world.

I attended 2 weddings in Chiaro, a village about 10km outside Karnal. It doesn't even show up as a place on google maps, but its probably 2000 people. I will be putting sets together of our family vacation photos and wedding albums, but I want to clean those up. I'm going to add more to this set soon. We found ourselves in the middle of the festival of Shivaratri in downtown Karnal. Folks munching deep fried marijana balls. It sure ain't easter.

Its an entry level SLR setup. Canon Rebel XSI. UV/Polar filters. Canon 430EXII flash. I used a diffuser on some of the wedding photos. Lens was not really up to the task, but I got by.

You are a pretty good photographer. Like the night shots.

What equipment did you use? I am a Canon 5D guy..

Cheers!!

My best picture was taken with a fix lens Kodak VR35 point and shoot. The lighting situations really require an SLR.

Very cool - a place I wouldn't mind visiting myself someday if I ever get the chance...

What's with all the bracelets? Is there some kind of significance to them? There sure were a lot. Do the colors mean anything or are they cultural in some way?

And what's the deal with the "sex" building? Brothel shack?

its a cultural thing,

women generally wear several bracelets. some signify things, some dont, (more like style)

I have heard some stories the idea of a lot of bangles, means that they make a noise when walking so scares/off of evil spirits.

also used in dancing again to make a pleasant jingling noise

both men/women wear a thread around there wrists, this is actualy given to signify brother/sister relationship or sometimes close cousin relationship.

on Siehks they wear one big havy metal braclet, this goes back to the time when they used to go go war/fight with other factions they could put there hand up to deflect a blade if necessary

a gold thread/chain on a married women is called a Thalli, this is given at the time of marriage and is never taken off whilst the person is married

The 'sex' building is just an abandon roadside shack. The writing is an advertisment for an Ayurvedic sexual specialist of some kind.

Very good, thanks!
You're an awesome photographer!

My brother is living there right now; but after seeing his pics my wife and I decided we'd rather not go there. He's stationed in NYC next, we love it there so we're gonna wait to visit him. fwiw.

Great job, I didn't realize you could embed Flickr; I'll have to incorporate that; great job buddy!!!
