Holographic Sights

I've decided on building a carbine with lower I bought last week. (I played with the ideas of building a pistol and building a .50 with it.)

I'm going to take a trip out to Colona, Illinois to buy the rest of the parts.

The holographic sights intrigue me. Anyone have one? Do I have to spring for an EOTech or are there and decent cheaper ones?

I have an ACOG red dot on my bushmaster m-4 style... just make sure you get one that can handle the recoil of the round you're gonna be using... i seen cheap BSA's ones work just as well as the expensive ones... but the warranty isnt the same... i have a 10 year warranty on my ACOG... just make sure it can handle the recoil.. the same with rifle scopes..

Batteries and guns are never a good combination. I like "ghost ring" style sights, like from XS Sight Systems, for the kind of shooting indicated by those fancy electrical gizmos.

double up on the "ghost rings" fer me. get trijicon or meprolight tritium NUKLAR inserts. i love night sites. instinctive point and shoot.

i have a red dot on my ruger 22/45 stainless 6"7/8 barrel and all it is is a gizmo. its fun but my son and i after awhile always go back to the iron sites.

hell on all HK rifles all ya do is fill the sight picture with fur or flesh and pull the damn trigger and subject is vaporized. no brainer if there ever was one.

my benelli tactical 12 gauge has ghost rings and since its brand new they have changed design on the "nuklar" sites from meprolight. gunstore ordered in "old style" which didnt werk. waiting on new ones to arrive.

ghost rings are instinctive point and shoot. have seen guys put all sorts of zoomy scopes on HK's and all it is, is another gizmo to fail when ya need it most.

im drooling for my "new"(another ) hk4 to arrive with .380/.32/.25 barrels and a new unfired complete everything slide and clips for all, for measly ass sum of $600 bucks. will sell .32 and .25 new unfired barrels for $150 each and then find a .22 barrel and life will be good on the lil ittsy bittsy mouse gun side of things.

theres nothing better than blasting the snot out of a target from 15 yds and all yer rounds hit inside a circumference of a beer can with a piss ant mouse gun. cheap(well kind of) PHFUN!

I'm either between a holographic sight or a red dot sight. I have a ghost ring on my other AR and I'm not a huge fan.

Here's a really crazy idea. My friend and I were discussing motorcycling up to Colona (about two hours away) to buy the parts and bringing them back in our backpacks.

Illinois law says that all guns must be in a case and not accessible or loaded during transportation.

My fear is that the state police would take a dim view of this, even if we didn't violate any laws.

i think because its in parts and not a complete gun then it doesnt apply... i'm pretty sure as long as you tell the guy hey i just got a upper or lower receiver and that you have the proper receipts... you're good to go... dont do anything to attract attention like speeding and weaving in and out of traffic... what kind of carbine are you building?? AR or what???

Not sure if you're aware, but the Iron sights on an AR15A2 or newer are absolutely fantastic.

You can make 300 meter shots vs man sized targets in your sleep with the iron sights on a 16. I'd leave the complicated stuff off, and just get tritium inserts for the factory peep sight.(some of our M-16A2s in the army had them)

I'm thinking about fiber optic sights for my next build. I really need to get on this. The lower parts kit and receiver are sitting on my desk, just begging to be made into a gun.

a heads up to all re: guns and gun parts...............read the ATF website before you get your self in a situation you may not like. it is a hell of a long read and alot of it doesnt apply, but on the other hand it may apply to interstate travels to non gun friendly states.

there is a huge push on by BATF to correct illegal gun sales and shipment of parts sales. especially here in az. the vortex of illegal guns going to messiko and the cartels.

i dont care what other federal laws you may break................but breaking federal gunlaws is about as smart as taking the illegal gun you may have, with a loaded mag and playing russian roulette.

keep your eyes on this clown egyptian that owned x-caliber guns here in phx. his trial opened yesterday here and he is accused of supplying weapons directly traced to murders of miltars/federales/and polizia in messiko by the cartels.
the atf is going to fry his balls in pig fat BIGTIME!

go to atf and click on FAQ and grab a bag of chips and a cold drink cuz its a hell of a LONNNNNNNGGGG read but it will enlighten you to a very serious problem we have here in the southwest.

I have a c-more red dot on my ar and love it. .
I highly recommend it. The battery life is 60 hours and has only been a problem once when I forgot to turn it off...You can still look through and use the iron sites though...
Midway USA has them:

I have the Millett Zoom Dot scope and its battery is rated for some crazy number of hours. It turns automatically when I flip the dust covers open and shuts off when I close them. So, the longest I'd ever have it on is while at the range. I'd never pack it up without closing the dust covers. And how long will I ever be involved in......wet work?

I have an Eotech 512 on my AR. It is extremely quick to align with huge field of view. The 512 is the AA powered model so batteries are cheap, plentiful, and last for hundreds of hours. This gun is used in three-gun competition and has been dynamite! It has a one minute dot surrounded by a 65 min circle. It gives adequate precision along with a very large, close range aspect to the reticle.

Apparently, it is favored by private security in Irag.

I've got the same EOTech as Troy and love it. I'd recommend one. Try opticsplanet.com for prices.
