Or even mineral spirits. (Paint thinner). Quite a bit less toxic than brake cleaner and will do the exact same thing.

it worked. i pulled the pads, soaked them in CRC brake cleaner (the non-flammable kind) and also sprayed down the rotor. i then wiped them all off with a paper towel, including the rotor. assembly was the reverse of removal.
while road testing, i found that i could easily lock up the rear wheel, with avon super venoms. two hours ago, engaging the rear brake resulted in nearly no effect whatsoever. how did i get motor oil all over the rear brake? it is a short, embarrassing story.

I have a '78 Triumph as part of my collection. The main reason to get oil on the pads is many of these bike have a crankcase vent tube routed back in that general direction.
The proper fix is probably engine work to stop the blow-by. The easy fix to put put a "catch bottle" at the end of the vent tube.....Something like an plastic, (empty) one pint bottle of fork oil or something of similar shape.......

i already did a top end rebuild last year, with high performance pistons and a complete cylinder head rebuild (new valves, guides, and seals).

Did you pull the head without draining the oil?
