How often do you call your significant other on the phone?

This question is for people who regularly see their mate...not people who are always on the road for business, overseas with the military, etc.

I've noticed that my friends who are attached are seemingly always on the phone with their spouses/mates. People who just saw each other a couple hours ago yakking on the cell about what seems to be unimportant (to me anyway) stuff. I'm starting to think I'm the weird one.

Talking with my wife tonight about it, she says the other people in her office are constantly getting calls from their spouses. I asked if she would want me to do that, she said hell no, I'm busy working -- you can call if it's important, but not just to chat. But, I never call just to chat -- we see each other every day, and have plenty of time to chat when we are both free.

But all the people around me cannot seem to go more than a couple hours without voice contact. I just don't understand it -- I'm talking about grown people, not teenagers.

So, is everybody out there nuts, or am I the reject? ( I recognize these 2 answers may not be mutually exclusive).

My wife is perfectly happy talking to me once a day, usually at night, right before bedtime. (When I'm on the road). It drives me nuts. I would like to at least say 'hello' once or twice during the day! One guy I work with wife calls every 30 minutes it seems. We all have a standing joke that she says,. Ted, I just called to let you know I just sneezed. Ted, I just called to let you know I walked across the kitchen floor. Its that bad really!! I would like something in the middle!!! When I'm home, it usually twice a day.

I usually call Steve for a few minutes each day if work allows and again in the evening for a nice longer chat. So, let's call it 1.5 times a day on the average.

Besides, he talks naughty to me and makes me smile!

Angela, TMI.

We never talk by phone just to talk. It's usually some issue that we have to deal with, or a reminder to "do" something. Prefer interacting face to face. Didn't start that way, wife used to call just to chat. Since I am typically running anywhere from 15-60 minutes late (because something is always coming up/interrupting), this additional interruption did not reduce the stress. Eventually, she changed and now only calls when something is up. Makes it that much better when we can just be together, no work, no interruptions.

I try to call home every night when I'm on the road - which is frequent lately. Plus we typically text and/or email once or twice esp. if we can't connect by phone.

Ahh... I actually mis-read the first post where it discussed how many phone calls when you DO see your spouse regularly. I travel alot and just thought the question was regarding # of calls when out of town. But home is different. For that, Steve or I usually call each other once per day when I'm in town. Try to have lunch together, figure out whose picking up the kids, etc.

The nice thing is that the phone calls could be about "something" like kids, an appointment, etc., or they could be about "nothing" like "just called to say I love you, etc."

I've seen spouses where the calls are one after another all day long. Blech. That would annoy the heck out of me. But getting to hear my husband's voice during the middle of the day for a few minutes is wonder. I love the sound of it, it makes me smile just to see his name on the caller ID.

They're nuts. My significant other and I do not call each other at work unless it's an absolute emergency. If it's simply important, we'll e-mail.

She ran an office, and her front desk girls couldn't understand why I didn't call 4 times a day like their (loser) husbands/boyfriends did. They figured I didn't care. They apparently didn't notice that it's because my SO ran the office, so she had to WORK, not TALK.

I rarely talk to my wife during the day. Occasionally she'll call with a question. Because I leave for work early, I'll often send a short text in the morning to say have a good day. I've known those guys that constantly got calls. That would drive me batty.

We spend most days together; however if I'm at the site for the day or a business trip I'll call her a couple times in a day and another in the evening. I talk to the kids too; I like it.

I call mine in the morning time to say Good morning, I am out of the house and working before her alarm goes off. Then I will call her when I sit down for lunch. We do more texting than anything. Don't have to answer a test if it is inconvenient. Funny thing is we never talk at home any more.

When either of us are away from the house we will call to check on each other. I knew this young lady for 10 days when I asked her to marry me and now after 42 years she is still my lover, wife and most important my best friend.

When I'm at home: seldom during the day. When I am on the road: I call once every night + I text when I am safely back at airport or after a long drive to ease her worried mind.

I tip my hat to Ya'll. I thought I was doing well at 23 years.

I travel a lot - when out of town, I usually talk to her 5 times a day.
When in town, a couple calls a day is norm - she owns her own business, so I'm not taking up an employers time with the calls - she has a cell phone off rule for her employees when their at work.

Once or twice a day during the work week. One of those times is to coordinate meeting up for our walk home from work. On the weekends, it depends whether we're going in different directions or if we're hanging out together.
