wheel guns
Ok, just one more and I'll stop. Besides, I'll have 5 long guns and only 4 handguns...that just isn't right. Plus getting a revolver chambered in .357mag to accompany the 1984 is a no-brainer.

Any other favs out there? The 686 or 66 seem to be the "classic" .357. This is on my short list: Ruger Super Redhawk Alaskan in .454 Casull also shoots .45 Long Colt...

jeez todd. you just changed one obsession for another! kudos.
i tried to do a search, but i couldnt find it. i was watching a TV show about defense arms. the guys had a compact .44 that had some cool alloy frame. light, kicked like a mule. i wanted one bad!

YA GOTA LISTEN TO DAD HERE..U must have some idea of what I know about this stuff.
U want a Wheel gun...the 357 is a GOOD Choich..Only WHAT TO BUY. One of the first pistolas I ever bought and still have is No. 1 on the list.... No. 1 on the list is.....If ya can afford the stroke BUY A COLT PYTHON...4" or 6" does not matter much...the pre letter prefix guns are getting expensive....made from 1955 to 1970. They finally discontinued the gun about 3 or 4 years ago...PYTHON ELITE..4" SS ..a custom shop gun..around $1300 now... Price range for a near NIB 6 or 4 inch Blue gun is $1000 to $1500. This is a no fking brainer, cause right out of the box they is smoooooth.....like glass.. No. 2 For a Heavier Frame357... is the S&W MDL 27...this pistola in 3 1/2 in Barrel is the F...B....I....gun... But here I would get a 6". 6 1/2" or 8 3/8 Barreled Blue gun...YOU WANT A MDL 27-2....this is the PINNED AND RECESSED MODEL...they stopped doing that in 1982 to save production costs...Serial numbers are going to be S200000 to N800000. These are NOW collectable..but is the only way to go.. Price range is going to be $600 to about $850 for NIB. In a lot of cases they come with a wooden presentation case..mostly the foam interiors are now crumbling. Can not go wrong with this gun...the pre war version of this gun is known as the Registered Magmum, which was a custom gun from S&W in the 1930's. Can you say $4000 to $17000 for one of these..So that is why this little ole MDL 27-2 has gotten hot and is going to be a good investment. No. 3 Yes I do like the S&W 686 but the EARLIER 1980's version...Stainless...6 inch barrel...sorry only 6 shots...Around $400 to $550. The actions on Smiths won't be the same as with the Colt Pythons. Lots of time target shooters would take them and have them smoothed out...The companion gun to the Python is the Diamond Back available in 22LR and 38 Spl...22LR is more popular and goes for $800 to $1200...for NIB. I really don't get these 7 and 8 shot Smiths..ya can keep em, and with the new key lock device on the frame IT IS A JOKE...especially when so many other beautiful ones are available..

The Rugers are hard to beat and are well priced. They have stronger frames.
The S&W is a classic.

OHHH yeah the S&W MDL 27-2 has the same heavy frame as the Smith "Dirty Harry" Mdl 29 44 Mag...

Hmmm now let me see..the KORTH is a revolver made in Germany and IS HAND BUILT and costs about $12,000 new if ya can get one...less then 100 per year are built
AND a Colt Python is a discontinued American MADE revolver...that is really comparable in quality....for $1000 to $1500... A pre Letter prefix gun just sold at auction for a hammer price of $2500 for NIB...ouch can ya see where the prices are going on Pythons...

I have a Ruger Blackhawk .357 with a 6 inch barrel. Great gun. Its my hiking gun.
That being said, I think a S&W 686 would be an excellent choice. On of my favorite handguns period. I shot one with a 6 inch barrel, and I was suprised at how accurate I was with it.

My favorite revolver that I ever owned was a S&W Mod 28... awesome gun will probably get another... think that the 686 is basically the same frame/size just in stainless..... Got trophies in the living room right now that I won with that Mod 28.....

if yer gonna stare at your blue guns and clean them all the time they are fine. nice to look at, wonderful to look at at, but worthless in the REAL WORLD going in and out of a holster all day.
got damn tired of refinishing guns. and its damn expensive to do it right the first time. bored???? take a look at what it costs to refinish a gun. go to ROBAR.com and go to their pdf. site showing recipes and costs. if its rare and i have a woody for it, i am forced to go with blue guns. HKs come from the factory with a HE(hostile environment) finish and i have worn them from carrying and ones at robar now getting refinished. by choice any day..............stainless. easier to clean, stays nice going in and out of a holster a bazzillion times. guys we were shooting with today....................are going thru 60K (yep thats 60 thousand rounds a year!) in and out of holsters and thats some seriass wear on a gun. and yes the vast majority of IPSA shooters today be it a semi-auto or a revolver were stainless. |

Seriously considering this as a new home defense standard... I really like the idea of a .50 wheelgun for simple, reliable, powerful deterrent factor. A little easier to wield than a 12-ga (even a short one) too. They're a blast to shoot too (I've rented one - wow fun!)
Ammo ain't cheap though.
