Second that. They'll sell like crazy. Particularly if gas prices go down.

I see enough new Mustangs, GT, Shelby and otherwise, to know this segment of American automobiles, ugly or not, is certainly not dead.

There is always a buyer. In the Camaro's case, maybe several million buyers.

The Mustang has been selling at around 100-125K units per year for the last couple of years.

At that pace, it would take 20-30 years to sell "several million."

(Of course, Ford is hardly selling any Mustangs at all currently, a few thousand per month).

The market for this 60's "retro" stuff is getting smaller every year, as the 60s generation dies off. The new Camaro will do well at first (just like the PT Cruiser did), but it will be dead and gone (again) long before several million are sold.

Ahhh, but we in our 60's don't have to do a lot of long range planning, do we? So, if it doesn't sell well, we won't care. :rolleyes:

Gotta admit, I'm not as crazy about the lines as some here...but I'll look, when/if the begin to show up in this backwater.

Several million Camaro's have already been sold.

This is just the latest steed in the line.

No, actually, I think the intended marked is the 40-60 year old male crowd. Guys that grew up having and or wanting the '67-69 Camaros. It's also supposed to be cool enough for the 20-30 yo crowd to want who may not have much history with the first gen Camaro. Yes, I suspect plenty of mullet heads will want one. It seems like the American muscle car always has a home with rednecks and mullet heads.

I like the side view. I think the side view is much better than the newest mustang. Dodge and GM got the fenders right when they didn't go with a flat topped fender like Ford did with the Mustang.

I'm curious to see one in person. I think the Challenger looks great, much better than the Mustang. I don't know that I'd have any of the three since in the next few years all three will be everywhere. I try hard to NOT be just like everyone else.

In this case, as in the past, the answer isn't "there can be only one". Competition fuels this type of thing. The which is better debate that can usually never really be answered. That'll work very well in:

1. A recession
2. An environment where gas goes back up to $4 a gallon in a year or two
3. A scenario where GM gets federalized or broken up in BK
4. A democratic administration who wants everyone to drive SmartCars or ride bicycles.

Not a "bad" car per se. I'm not a huge fan of the design, but I can understand how some might like it. Absolutely the wrong move right now though. Another GM case of putting exactly the wrong car on the market at the wrong time.

I saw a black Camaro in Ann Arbor a few months ago.

In the past two weeks:

A black one with a large induction hood which had twin white/sile stripes on it, the stripes were no where else on the car.

A light turquoise/teal one, looked terrible in the fingernail polish like color.

A handsome maroon one, I took a poor picture in dim morning light.

Both are huge in person, with the Challenger taking the overall crown in hugeness. Strange from behind it looks top heavy, and reminds me of the decorations that people stick in their garden that look like a fat old lady bending over. Although it's still big, the Mustang carry's it's girth a little better in person in my opinion.
I can't get past the Camaro's boomerang mirrors, or it's unergonomic interior.

Not that I would buy any of them but if I had to choose, I'd spring for the Mustang in Bullitt trim with the upcoming ecoboost engine (a la SVO).

Nice choice.

The stock Camaro V6, will be faster than the stock Mustang V8 and get 26 mpg.

My first car (both plastic model when 6 yrs old and real car when 19 yrs old) was a 1966 Mustang. I'd get a Mustang, I grew up in Dearborn (across from the Rouge Plant) afterall.
