Na, it's going to be the same people I see buying Mustangs left and right...25 year old secretaries. Mustangs are having Mustang babies at stoplights, they're freaking everywhere, and they're all driven by old ladies, little girls, and recently graduated dorks. They all have cell phones surgically attached to their ears, which is why they all drive the V6/auto Mustangs.

The thing must have especially nice cupholders and a good Ipod hookup.

It's getting bad man. All of these new cars have huge side metal, tiny windows, high waistlines (how can some people even see out of them??), cavernous interiors...

Look at a Sky/Solstice. There's about 4 square inches of glass, TOTAL on that thing. It's all blindspots and blocked views. The Challenger requires the total steel output of some small countries just to make it's outer skin. Stand too close to one, and it blocks the sun...bats actually come out of roost when it drives by it leaves such a big shadow.

Splain please.

All that metal makes for stiffer chassis and better crash protection. Which is needed- because with those huge blind spots there's going to be a lot of idiots cutting people off in them..

And that's why the Mustang survived and the Camaro died. The last generation Camaro Z28 could kick a Mustang GT's ass in a street race, but the V8 models aren't where the money is made. They sell exponentially more base models than they do V8 performance models. The Mustang was superior in pretty much every other way, so the base models sold like crazy to college girls, secretaries, etc.

BUT, this new Camaro might change all that. It has flashy styling, GM has improved their build quality (at least to Ford levels), and has pretty impressive performance. Last time I checked, 300 HP, RWD, high 20s MPG, and IRS aren't a bad combination, and that's the V6 base model. Compared to the V6 Mustang it's vastly superior. If they tune the chassis well, it should have better ride and handling than the Mustang, thanks to IRS vs a solid rear axle.

Personally I think the Mustang and Camaro are better than the Challenger, that car is an absolute pig. I just can't get over how freakin' big it is.

1. The retro T-Bird was planned to be a short term limited production vehicle, a brand image maker - nothing more, but I'm sure they had their fingers cross just in case it took off. And it was a while ago, history in consumers eyes.

3. Clueless? No, just short sighted, and slaves to quarterly projections which leaves little imagination for the quantum changes they have to make due to China's thirst for oil, religious wars, politics, regulation and total collapse of the world economy.

Yeah, true. I think the order of most seen vehicles in Houston is Trucks (60%) and then Mustangs (25%). I see lots of women, old guys, and young testosterone charged kids driving mustangs.

I road in a Mustang once. I wasn't impressed by the interior, ergonomics, seating etc.... The only notable thing about the interior was the retro dash.

In my miata, the waistline is fairly low, a lot of my shoulder and upper arm is showing in the side windows. I saw a post from a kid on the miata board a while back saying that he really dislikes the low waistline of the miata. He feels exposed.

Funny, I like the low waistline cars and having good outward visibility. I don't like the newer high waisted cars. I actually think that it would be interesting to have a Lotus/Caterham 7 which puts the car waistline at your waistline.

Don't forget Rental fleets.

Oh is THAT all, hell I can live with that.

The GT Mustang is everywhere here. So is the V6, and so are the Shelby variants. V8 Mustangs, particularly with stick shifts, are back ordered throughout many L.A. Ford dealerships. All that's on the lots are ugly colors, poorly appointed, foul graphics Mustangs.

Two new Challengers are in my neighborhood; and I'm certain people around here who are not anchored by a utilitarian four-door, will also consider the Camaro. If I were GM, I certainly wouldn't worry about the Camaro doing well in SoCal.

In fact, I'll bet GM will sell a trove of the Camaros here - to all age groups. What oddly has not been selling all that well around here are $40-50K foreign cars like Mercedes and BMW, when driven well, an American car that cost half as much, i.e., the Pontiac G8, will handily do the job.

I'd love a '67 Camaro SS, or any muscle from the late 60's 70's even in retro form.

I saw a challenger in person the other day and though I don't care for it too much, it's not a bad car. I think with the Mustang and now the Challenger, the Camaro is too little too late.

My personal favorite waistline is embodied in the TR3, beaten only by a go kart. But that said, the Camaro looks interesting.

Yeah the T-Bird was very cool. With Mustang power and RWD, that thing would have been a classic like the early ones.
