Those carcasses will be consumed by other critters, the eco-system will benefit from their passing, none of it will be wasted.
Shrug. I don't varmint hunt, but i don't get all bent out of shape about those that do. |

"I know there not cheep rounds in comparison with the .22 lr but i think something with alittle more punch will keep me enjoying the rifle for longer. " A WMR is NOT a "long rifle". It is significantly more powerful. A .17 is useful for varmint hunting, such as rats... and while a .22 WMR is usefull for this as well: It can kill a raccoon dead with one shot. I know this- I've done it. A .22 long rifle just kind of pisses off a raccoon. -I don't recommend getting one of these animals upset because they have a mouth full of nasty teeth and can usually kill a dog twice their weight.... Yes they burrow holes that livestock, horses and cattle can break legs in. Happens often, many ranchers will openly invite you to thin the herds in some cases they will pay for 22LR ammo.
This great fun! with a 22LR early in the season with young or new shooters before they get spooky, the eagles and coyotes get the benefits, the fields will be clean the next morning. Several small ranching communities sponsor big hunts they invite safety minded hunters, feed them lunch and let the culling begin. This is not for everyone. It's a western thing. |

Ground hogs here are a nuisance to my bro in law as he is a farmer. I'm not a hunter, but when I saw what they do to his crops, it became more acceptable to me. They eat his crops, dig holes big enough to break a cows or horses leg, and make the combine get stuck on the mounds. I love animals but these things multiply like rabbits and cause havoc in the life of a small farmer. We go out in the evenings, set lawn chairs up in the truck bed, and BS until one stands up. Some nights we don't even get to shoot but we always have a great time. Kinda like fishing.
