Index Finger Won't Straighten Out.
I swear, if I was a car, I would part myself out.....
I woke up this morning and while combing my hair, my hand felt funny:eek: Well, I tried to straighten my fingers & noticed my index wouldn't go, I can use my other hand to do it, but it just drops back:confused: No pain, just feels a little numb between my thumb & finger:confused: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1237668088.jpg |
This has happened to me. You have snapped the tendon on the top of your finger. Mine healed by itself. To this day the plastic surgeon still doesn't know how it healed itself. I would try bandaging it up straight right away.
It took mine months before it finally started moving again. |

Not a doctor here, but have done some reading on a condition called Dupuytren's Contracture. If it were me I would see a doctor.

Either way, Byron, you should really stop watching the 12 hours of Sebring and see a doctor. |
I have a doctors appointment at the beginning of the week for my leg, so I'll show this too.
Jim, more like this:p http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1237691831.jpg Thanks guys to the help..... |
If you didn't hurt it then it's not likely a torn tendon.
It is more likely an issue with the tendon sheath not allowing smooth movement. Search Trigger Finger. Kind of like a kink in the clutch cable housing binding the clutch movement. We are on topic now. Time, anti-inflamatory meds, range of motion, physical therapy and maybe surgery will address this. Hope yours resolves quickly. |
that happened to me during a basketball game last year. mine was a result of a severed tendon. despite it happening during a basketball, it was painless. didn't even know about it until the ball felt funny in my hand. anyway, to make story short, you have to keep it straight for something like 3 months. I had a surgeon give me two aluminum popsicle sticks and tape, but that didn't work. I used that for 4-5 months before a therapist gave me that special brace that slips over the finger. don't use tape as it is not strong enough over a 24 hour period. the whole experience wasn't painful, but a pain in the *ss having to keep that on for 24 hours/day.

That's not dupuytren's
You've ruptured your extensor tendon over the distal joint. Sometimes this can be fixed with a splint, but sometimes it requires a pin or a more formal operation. You need to get it looked at in the next fews days -- sooner the better - to avoid a permanent deformity |
I knew someone that had a similar issue. Ended up having a pin running down the finger for 2 months. Be careful around Orth Surgeons, incredible Docs overall (I owe a lot to mine, specifically being able to use my left thumb) but I have to wonder about anyone that takes a drill to another persons body on a daily basis.
|
Looks like a broken tendon. Go to your local ER and have it assessed. Probably will end up with a splint and a erfereal to an orthopedic surgeon. Good luck!
|
Good luck. I had a similar thing with my thumb. My thumb stuck straight out. It wasn't a problem but cars kept stopping and asking me if I wanted a lift.
I felt a squigly thing in my forearm and it was my thumb tendon broken off. I got an operation where they reconnected it but it was an awful physio rehab - very painful. It's 90% ok now but can hurt a bit at times, and this is 25 years later. |
Looks like boutonniere deformity.

Yes. See a Doc ASAP. I blew out my bicep a month ago and the Orthopod said that time is critical if it is a tendon issue. Had my distal repair 3 weeks ago. Still can't extend my fingers-radial nerve palsy. Days, weeks, months nobody knows.. Bottom line- get it seen!
|
Looks like a classic case of trigger finger. Happened to me once, took a cortisone injection, into the effected area. End of problem. Don't believe them when they tell you that the needle "only hurts a bit".

Had it checked today, said it is broken and now in a splint and they said to get it X-Rayed and comeback in 4 weeks:)
Leg is getting better too. |
Byron, please tell me the finger wasn't attached to your your drinking arm :D
|
Huh, broken is usually bruised.
I suspect Byron von D can drink adequately with his off hand |
Too bad, Byron. That bent finger was the perfect shape for some of those questionable ladies you hang out with.

Well let’s thank THE BIG GUY for giving us redundant drinking arms!
I’m not quit as efficient with the left, as I'm a righty :D |
Finger upate
Still in a splint, but not broken, but tendon. Now they want me to have an MRI on my finger. |
heat and Kroil. repeat as needed.
|
Just noticed this thread, How do you get yourself in these predicaments? Haven't even finished healing up the leg and now you have finger issues? :>) How's the leg doing?

Are you open to trades? :) Have a big toe that locks up straight from time to time - try getting shoes on with a sgt. Hulka that wont bend. Btw, you are going to look like some kind of contorsionist picking buggers at the stop light! |
